I know what it means when there is a stricture but I am not familiar with it without there being strictures. Thanks for any information. Guest guest Posted March 17, 2009 Report Share Posted March 17, 2009 Hi Dawn; The " intrahepatic dilation " is probably a bile duct inside the liver showing up as being wider than normal. A stricture is the opposite; a narrowing of the bile duct. Often in PSC the classic appearance of the bile ducts is alternate areas of dilations and strictures resulting in a " string-of-beads " appearance. So an " intrahepatic dilation without a stricture " probably means an area of widening of a bile duct without adjacent narrowing. Best regards, Dave R. That was one of the first things that happened to me. My first big stricture was in the common bile duct outside the liver itself. So the backed up bile caused dilation. In fact – for quite a while they thought the trouble inside my liver was caused by damage from the first stricture instead of PSC.
