What does it mean to have intrahepatic dialation without a stricture? I know

what it means when there is a stricture but I am not familiar with it without

there being strictures.

Thanks for any information.

Thanks again Dave

up as being wider than normal. A stricture is the opposite; a narrowing of the

bile duct. Often in PSC the classic appearance of the bile ducts is alternate

areas of dilations and strictures resulting in a " string-of-beads " appearance.

So an " intrahepatic dilation without a stricture " probably means an area of

widening of a bile duct without adjacent narrowing.

Could

mean that a stricture lower in the “tree” causes the bile to back up and

stretch the ducts. That was one of the first things that happened to me. My

first big stricture was in the common bile duct outside the liver itself. So

the backed up bile caused dilation.

In fact – for quite a while

they thought the trouble inside my liver was caused by damage from the first

stricture instead of PSC.
