Guest guest
How about the well-meaning people who tell us that all that medicine is bad for us and too much lying around is bad for our health. I am talking about the dreaded herb people. The herbs they sell will cure anything, or at least make the pain go away without meds. Of course their herbs cost a lot and they can’t really tell you what is in the pill or bottle. When you ask about double-blind studies they look at you with a blank face. When you explain that, they give you testimonials from people they know or met. When I mention herbal companies have no FDA supervision, they say the FDA is crooked. They tell you everything in their product is natural and I think “so is hemlock and magic mushrooms”. If I eat the mushrooms from my back yard I will get sick or maybe die. I explain “everything is natural”, God made all the ingredients on the earth but that doesn’t make them all healthy. I am not poo-pooing all herbs but we need to be careful, as careful as the meds we use. The trouble is, herbs are not regulated. Example: 2cc’s each hour of a particular herb might make someone feel better but they might put 1/10th of a cc in a bottle mixed with water and tell you it has the herb that makes you feel better and to take ½ cc once each day. I hardly ever mention the meds I take. I especially don’t tell about my pain and sleeping meds. From: t4bess@... I have gone through this for so many years I say nothing because I get so tired of the remarks even at times from the Doctors Norma Jean Get your FREE personalized email signature at My Mail Signature! Boy, I am with ya on this one! What's the point? Try telling people you have to take PAIN meds. oooweeee... get ready for lecture on addiction number 50,000! I know you can get hooked on some meds, but I have seen people return to work due to pain medication. And no one even knows they are taking it unless they tell! And for our wonderful snake oil vendors of the world.. how easy to sell some concoction that can cure all invisible diseases! I wish I had a nickel for every one that I have been forced on me over the years. We have your wonderful, stinky, HUGE mushroom that has to sit in your fridge like a creepy alien staring at you and then drink the tea it makes. Is that KM stuff still around? I had someone approach me with it back in the early 90's. Thick, black, ugly stuff that tasted like moldy licorice in a bottle that looked like an old milk bottle. Take a swig THREE TIMES a day and you will live to be 100! It tasted like tar off your roof on a hot summer Florida day. And the only remedial thing I noticed was it CLEANED you out..lol I guess that would make someone with ANY disease feel better! lol We had the spirulina that was green, seaweed looking stuff that you mixed in milk and made the milk look like scummy pond water. But it would cure ya FO SHORE!!! (not.) And the magnets to go under your mattress.. about $300 if I remember correctly. The list goes on and on. I actually tried a few over the years when I still thought I could get better unconventually. ( How about ice water enemas in Mexico?) lol I now tell anyone who decides to start a new.. business.. to first show me a person getting up from a wheelchair or a leg growing back! That usually shuts them up! Sunny > >
