Peace to all,

I really can't remember if I ever submitted my intro when I joined this

group several weeks ago, but feel sure I did, anyway...

I have been newly diagnosed, two months now, with fibromyalgia, though as a

nurse I suspected this diagnosis for several years now, just did not want to

admit/surrender to it.

I have been treating a herniated disc, from lifting patients, for over 20

years now with yoga and occasional vicodin when I really over do, lifting 60

lb. bales of hay, shearing my angora goats (two of whom out weigh me) etc.

Then I started getting pain in my neck and shoulders and I contributed it to

having a tumor removed from the trapezius several years ago. Then my knees

started hurting and I thought perhaps it was from when I ran 3 miles a day

or from sitting lotus when I meditate, then my fingers and wrists started

hurting and I contributed that to spinning and weaving. Then my ankles and

feet started hurting and I blamed standing on my feet all day in the clinic

I work in......Finally I went to see my doctor and told him I was entirely

too young and to healthy to feel this bad (44 y/o) and he diagnosed me with

fibromyalgia.

He started me on Elavil and it does help with the pain. Unfortunately it

did nothing for my disc pain and I am scheduled for an Epidural next week.

This has helped me in the past. I am hoping I will get as much relief as I

did 15 yrs. ago.

Anyway a couple of comments made in posts to the group caught my attention.

First of all I am a vegetarian, have been for over 20 years now. While I

still developed FM well after becoming a vegetarian I truly believe this

diet has prevented the symptoms from becoming much worse than they are. And

they are bad enough.

Secondly on the topic of soda pops I would like to warn women about

consuming too much. The body has to keep a certain ratio of

calcium/phosphorous. By drinking excess soda the body can actually rob your

bones of calcium trying to keep that ratio. Again, while I have never been

a soda drinker I (as a tall thin white female) already am showing osteopenic

changes in one of my hips. So like with the FM issue I have to say I

suspect the damage would be worse if I were a soda drinker.

We do the best we can. Now I keep reading, researching and hoping...

Breathe and :-)
