That (extending around the back on the same side) is one of the classic places for shingles (although dull pain would unusual - numbness, tingling, and itching would be more usual). , Mom to 18 yo daughter UC 6/95, PSC 3/09To: Sent: Sunday, April 5, 2009 7:53:07 PMSubject: Dull annoying pain .. Guest guest
I get pain in that area a lot, It usually menas that I have some swelling or active inflamation going on. The doctors cannot say for sure why this happens but my best guess is that I am experiencing more irritation to my liver and this intern causes it to swell causing the pain to come from he inside out. Mind you I am not a doctor and this is my own explination for what is happening. Also a bruise could take more then a week to heal. I hae had them last two - three weeks and if it is a hematoma it can take much longer. SO I guess the answer is yes I experience what you described but I can only guess why. Guest guest
Marisol, there has to be something to that pain. I get pain in that exact place and several other gals have said the same thing. I quit wearing a bra over 6 or 7 years ago, but I am really skinny. It was partly for pain, but the itching is a big issue also. The doctors never acknowledge pain like that. It is quite distinctive (sp) it is just to the right of the sternum on the bottom of the rib, right? It feels bruised when it is touched and sometimes mine is red to look at. Actually, mine hurts right now, but I am having a bad pain flare all over. I've recently been dx with Relapsing Polychondritis which can attack the ribs, so I've wondered if it has something to do with that. Several people on this site have had costochondritis (inflammation of the ribs associated with liver disease). RP causes cartilage inflammation and destruction anywhere we have cartilage (which is everywhere). My pain is primarily in my nose, ears, massive headaches and joints. So far I haven't lost hearing or eyesight. All I can do is tell you I know exactly what pain you are taking about, sometimes that helps me a lot when you people know exactly what I am talking about. Guest guest
I too am a member of the " under the bra " club. I wish that I could say that my pain is dull; it sometimes feels like someone is repeatedly stabbing me with a knife. If I lightly push on the areas of pain, it helps a little but the pain always manages to come back shortly. The stabbing has stopped me in my tracks on a couple of occasions. Usually if I have an ERCP, the pain subsides for a while. It seems that this symptom is related to a clog somewhere in the biliary tree. I am seeing my hep on 04/20 and will bring this issue up with him then. Once I see him, I will try to give you all his insight on what he believes is causing this.
