Hi Cindy,

My parnter would def agree with you. a night doesnt go by when he tells

me to stop itching or looks at me with those eyes saying what the hell

are you doing. he puts it close to self harming! It really is maddening.

Just thought I would post my experience with itching because I think

it is so out there. Well, I've never really had any itching until...

after my last ercp (in October) when I got home from the hospital my

itching went into overdrive. The worse place was the soles of my feet

and the palms of my hands. It drove me bloody nuts. I went to my GP on

Day 2 and said I was going to commit suicide if they didn't give me

something. It was that bad. She doesn't really know that much about

psc but I knew what to ask for (questran) so was prescribed it.

Unbelievably after four or five days it stopped completely and I don't

believe it stopped because of the questran, it just stopped. So i can

sympathise with people that have got the intense itching all the time,

I don't know how they cope with it. I have more of a problem with the

fatigue but that's a whole different story.

Cheers

Does he have a fever at all? Is he jaundiced (yellowing of the eyes and/or

skin)? I would suspect with the nausea and itching that it could be liver

related – especially if he has a low grade fever or higher. Usually

for the itching to be liver related, his bilirubin would be elevated and he

would having yellowing of his eyes and/or skin. If he is

yellow, then it is likely that is the source of the itching. If not, then

it is more possible that it is a different cause.

I hope that this helps. Others with more knowledge and

experience will be along shortly, I am sure.

I have a question about itching. My husband has

never had itching with

his psc until today. Yesterday he was throwing up and now today he

says that he itches from head to toe. Does that mean that there is

something going on with the liver? This is a new symptom for us.

Hi Rick

While I don't have any fever [more feeling cold actually but that

could also be on account of the stinking cold weather here :)], my

itching has been progressively increasing the last couple of months.

Sometimes, I feel a bit of nausea and infrequently I'm feeling either

a dull ache (upper right quadrant) or sometimes a fairly brief but

intense sharp pain (roughly the same area). I've got no jaundice

however. I do have an upcoming CT scan of the liver so I'll see if

anything unusual presents itself. I'd be surprised though if the

itching is not liver related even I may not have all of the other

symptoms.

Hi and Rick,

I've gone through a lot of itching with PSC. For me, the itching

usually started before the jaundice, and stayed awhile after the

jaundice faded away. It (the itching) can get really BAD. I even

scarred my legs pretty bad from scratching involuntarily with my

toenails when I slept. And sleep doesn't come easy. I did find that an

over the counter antihistamine does wonders--Cor get a prescription for

something more powerful. Sorry to hear about the suffering.
