Guest guest
Hi group-- Sorry I'm so quiet, just still trying to get the hang of things, plus I'm not on the computer all that often. I need to have my malar rash biopsied and just wondered what that entailed?? I keep hearing the word skin punch and thing hmmmmmmm that sounds fun. If any of you have had this done, would you let me know what they do?? Also, how do they know it's a lupus rash or not, does it have actual antibodies in the skin or what??? Thanks for your help all! Love, ee
Guest guest
ee, When they say " punch " , it really does amount to that. They numb the area where they will take the biopsy. They have a device that " punches " out a circular area (not that big). You might require a stitch or two to close it off. I have had several (shoulder, leg, arm) and really did not feel it even after the numbness wore off. You just go back in about 10 days to have the stitch removed (or I was told I could remove it myself if I wanted to). They can check for antibodies in the biopsy. They use a flourescent lighting of some sort. They did not find any in my biopsies, but still attributed my spots to Subacute Cutaneous Lupus (I just think they did not know what was going on, and still don't). Good luck on your biopsy and let us know how it turns out! Puppy > Hi group-- > Sorry I'm so quiet, just still trying to get the hang of things, plus > I'm not on the computer all that often.
