Good question. That's what my report says too. I've always assumed it was just a short version of the same name.

I look forward to an answer.

Hello, my husband has been in the hospital since thursday. He had to have an absess removed and his crohns is way out of control and his liver function numbers are high. We have lived in Florida for 5 years and Tony has refused to see any DR. So here we are now with a Dr that has no clue about psc and maybe even crohns for that matter. Every time he comes in to check Tony I ask him questions and he says let me check with the nurse and he never comes back. Today I waited at the hospital all day for him and he did not show up. He put him on lialda two weeks ago and Tony still has diareah. The surgeon told me he could not believe his GI didn't admitt him to the hospital. The GI said he could have lansed his absess in the office but wanted him to be treated for his crohns flair. How I get him a new GI while he is still in the hospital? Will another Dr take his case while he is being treated by another Dr. We are so upset and disapointed with his treatment we don'tknow where to turn next. While I was looking over Tonys old records I noticed his Dr report stating he has sclerosing colangitis andnot Primary sclerosing colangitis. Is there a difference? Thanks!, wife of Tony age 38, crohns since 1982, psc 2001Tampa Florida A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps!

The difference between Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis and

Secondary or “other” sclerosing cholangitis is that Primary is

caused by this disease and secondary or “other” is caused by something

else entirely and is more likely to be acute as opposed to chronic.

I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s trouble with

his GI. With both Crohn’s and PSC he really should be seen by a

knowledgeable GI every year at the least, so hopefully your husband can find

someone that he is comfortable with. It does sound like Tony needs better

medical attention than he is getting. Perhaps you could start by having a

frank discussion with the current Dr and tell him that if he doesn’t

start giving Tony the attention that you think he needs or if he doesn’t

think he is qualified, that you will be seeking a 2nd opinion. If

that does not get you anywhere, seek a 2nd opinion!

I wish you and Tony the best of luck in this situation. I’ll

be praying for you.

, If you are unhappy with your husbands care, ask to talk to

the nursing supervisor for his floor (not the charge nurse). Tell that

person your concerns, they are often the pt advocater for the pt's on

that floor too. You/Your husband can ask for a different doctor, or

for a GI doctor to see him while he is in the hospital. Don't be afraid

so speak up and let your wishes be known.

Sclerosing Cholangitis is another name for PSC.

Secondary (second) is when it happens because of another primary

(first) disease.
