Because immigration law is so complicated, I would also recommend contacting

an agency specializing in legal assistance for battered immigrants. Another

agency you might want to contact is the National Immigration Project of the

National Lawyers Guild in Boston, MA (617) 227-9727.

The Violence Against Women Act has created two forms of relief for battered

immigrants: self petitioning and cancellation of removal. Also there is the

newly created U-Visa. Any agency providing legal assistance to battered

immigrant women will be able to thoroughly explain what the requirements are

for these forms of relief.
