I have read both scenarios; however, on

the Mayo Clinic web site it says “If the disease progresses to severe scarring of the liver,

causing liver failure, patients may need a liver transplant.”

Alison,

Hi! You're welcome! I hope somebody else chimes in soon to back me up, but I

feel pretty positive I was told that not all PSCers need a transplant.

Well I was just told by my doc that, based on my liver biopsy and most

recent labs, that my chance of ever needing a transplant went down

dramatically. My disease is all extrahepatic, which is not the case

for everyone. I think blanket statements like " I will definitely need

one " or " I will never need one " are unwise and can not be predicted

with any certainty. JM2c ;-)

wrong, but not all PSC patients end up needing liver transplants,

right? I think I was told that, while most PSC patients will require

a liver transplant at some point, it is not necessarily a given in all

cases. Anybody else heard the same thing?
