Guest guest
>Age range: 45-55 > >Male/female: Female > >What are the symptoms? Pain in Neck,Back,Shoulders,Hips,Legs,Wrists > >Has you illness been diagnosed? Yes - Fibromyalgia > >How long did you suffer before you got help? 6 months > >Is there a time that you can remember when it started? Yes - While I was sitting uncomfortably at work. Doing paperwork at a desk. I sat through the pain and did not correct my sitting position or anything. Now the pain is permanent. > >Some of us have found lack of exercise we are overweight. Have you found this to be a problem also? Yes > >Are you on disability? No > >If you are any pointers for others trying to get on disability? Good Luck....Many look at it as just plain arthritis. > >What have you found that helps ease the pain, warm baths, medications etc.? Yoga, Gentle Stretching. Sometimes a jacuzzi. MASSAGES, chiropractic adjustments, and acupunture offer the biggest help. Never sitting at a desk for longer than 2-3 hours, every two days. Walking. Try to remain stressfree. Changing a variety of pain medications, which seem only to be 40-60% effective, and only seem to last a few days anyway. So I switch between muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatories, and pain medications like Darvocet. I also have been on effexor for depression for 15 years. Even though my depression is so much better, I've heard that anti-depressants help fibromyalgia, so I don't plan to ever get off...........just in case it is helping. > >Do you have sleep problems? How do you deal with it? Yes. I'm always tired. I've taken an OTC natural sleep aid called Alluna. It works great, but it is expensive. It helps me get a " deep " sleep, which I seem to lack, and I wake up pretty refreshed. Also in less pain. When I feel Alluna is too expensive, I take the supplements Melatonin and Valerian, but they are less effective. > >Do you have family that understands your illness? Yes. My mother has chrontic fatigue syndrome. > >Some have found certain foods causes problems with CFS or Fibro, have you? No...and I love most foods and hate restrictions, so I'm reluctant to prosue this area. > >What type of Doctor have you found that has helped you the most? Rheumotologist diagnosed me, however, he says there is no cure, and won't prescribe me any pain medication for fear of addiction. I find more natural means more successful anyway. I only take Darvocet when I just can't take it anymore >
