Guest guest
Can you remind me of the sx of bacterial cholangitis? I've been dealing with my brain surgery recovery. It has been almost five weeks. Last night my husband went out to celebrate our 7th anniversary and a drank a couple mixed drinks. today I don't feel like I have a hangover but am having urq pain and chills and a fever of only 101. No jaundice but what are the other things to look for? I would prefer personal emails because they come to my phone so I can check them even when I don't have the strength to get up. Hope that you all are doing well. Guest guest
bacterial cholangitis Ascending cholangitis is bacterial infection of the biliary tract. It results from bile stasis due to chronic obstruction, usually by stones biliary obstruction due to gallstones causes up to 80% of cases of acute cholangitis (1) Not all obstructing lesions are followed by biliary infection. For example, only about 15% of patients with neoplastic obstruction develop cholangitis. The likelihood of infection seems greatest when the duct has acquired a resident bacterial population. Obstruction causes an increase in ductal pressure. The bacteria proliferate and escape into the systemic circulation via the hepatic sinusoids. The manifestations of sepsis may overshadow those of hepato-biliary disease causing acute suppurative cholangitis. Without prompt diagnosis and treatment, acute cholangitis can lead rapidly to septicaemia, shock and death (1): mortality of patients with acute cholangitis is about 5% there is evidence that patients aged 80 years or more have a higher mortality than younger patients poorer prognosis is associated with co-morbid disease, such as cirrhosis, malignancy, liver abscesses, hypoalbuminaemia or coagulopathy Notes: other causes of biliary obstruction (and consequent acute cholangitis) include: benign biliary strictures following biliary surgery, or associated with chronic pancreatitis primary sclerosing cholangitis HIV cholangiopathy biliary parasites in the Far East, parts of Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean, biliary parasites can cause blockage, which can lead to acute cholangitis acute cholangitis may occur as a result of biliary interventions such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and the use of biliary stents recurrent episodes of acute cholecystitis may occur in people with a compromised biliary system, such as those with a biliary stent in situ or in those who have a hepaticojejunostomy Can you remind me of the sx of bacterial cholangitis?
