Guest guest
Another organization that has worked closely on immigration issues pertaining to domestic abuse and provisions to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) to further protect battered immigrant women is the National Organization for Women Legal Defense and Education Fund (NOW LDEF), Immigrant Women Program. Their Washington, DC office can be reached at (202) 326-0040 or via e-mail at iwp@.... Hope this helps! ( Freedman) Reply-to: Because immigration law is so complicated, I would also recommend contacting an agency specializing in legal assistance for battered immigrants. Another agency you might want to contact is the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild in Boston, MA (617) 227-9727. The Violence Against Women Act has created two forms of relief for battered immigrants: self petitioning and cancellation of removal. Also there is the newly created U-Visa. Any agency providing legal assistance to battered immigrant women will be able to thoroughly explain what the requirements are for these forms of relief. Good luck!
