Guest guest
GINSENG INTERFERES WITH WARFARIN University of Chicago researchers say ginseng interferes with warfarin also known as Coumadin, a drug commonly used to prevent blood clots. " Warfarin has a narrow therapeutic index, which means precise dosing is crucial, " says study author Dr. Chun-Su Yuan, director of the Tang Center for Herbal Medicine Research at the University of Chicago. " With too small a dose, the risk of clots increases, but too much can cause serious bleeding. Anything that alters the effects of warfarin, therefore, can pose a significant problem. The study, published in the ls of Internal Medicine, found that after two weeks, daily doses of ginseng significantly reduced the blood levels and the anti-clotting effects of warfarin.
