Kirkman and I have a disagreement over this issue. It appears,

altho I am not entirely sure, that the P5P may be a more absorbable

form of B6. However, in my research and understanding, it is also the

form of B6 which aggravates phenol issues. Many other parents have

noticed this same thing, that SNT and other supplements containing P5P

serve to aggravate phenol symptoms in phenol-sensitive children.

If you read the Kirkman information on the site about SNT and B6, and

also page 18-19 of the online catalog, you will find information on

hyperactivity associated with SNT, and ideas you can try to help your

child if SNT or other P5P supplement causes your child to be hyper.

The B6/P5P does seem to help many autistic children with language,

behavior, and other issues, but it does cause hyper in some children.

I would suggest [my opinion and experience only], that you discontinue

any supplement which includes P5P, for about a week. Note any

regression and/or improvement in your child. Then add it back in at

about 1/4 recommended dose. If you see improvements, then you can

increase slowly, and stop if/when your child exhibits issues of

hyperactivity. If/when you see hyper or other negative effects, then

you can stop at the lower dosage, try the ideas Kirkman suggests, or

discontinue the P5P supplement and try another form of B6 to see if

your child tolerates another form better than the P5P form. I believe

the NuThera and/or EveryDay supplements by Kirkman contain B6 but not

P5P, altho I have not personally verified that information, you can

get it from the site.

My information about the P5P and phenol/hyper issue, is on my phenol

page.

>>First, I gather from the recent posts that there is disagreement

over which of these B vitamins is a concern with phenol sensitive

children.

Could you, or anyone else, point me to some resources for learning

more.

See my phenol page above, as well as Kirkman site above.

>>What

was your experience with 5P5?

My own son went very hyper with the SNT, which contains P5P.

>>Did it cause hyperactivity by itself, or make the

reaction worse when your child ingested a highly phenolic food?

It caused the hyper just by itself, because he was not eating high

phenol foods when I gave him the SNT.

>>Also, what is

the dosage of Molybdenum that you give to help with phenol problems?

On my phenol page indicated above, I have a link to a site with info

on molybdenum.
