Guest guest
Hi all, I am currently trying to get through " Adrenal Fatigue, the 21st century epidemic " and Im getting a little discouraged. There seems to be so much to do, learning about the food and combinations and all the info on oils and all that. And I am very very bad about coffee and diet pepsi. I thought it would be as easy as taking supplements. I am wrong, arnt I? Has anyone been abe to stick to this lifestyle to help adrenals? and if so, can you give me any pointers or hints? I am so hypo I have trouble getting through a book fast enough to avoid becoming " lost " and disinterested, and I really want to learn and follow this. I have just last night got to the chapter on vitamins... so tonight I may know a little more. My doc isnt open to a RX as he did a one time blood test and thought it was fine. I have serious doubts. I have had a lot of issues that point me to this belief. Thanks, AKA always tired and getting old fast (way old, like 120!)
Guest guest
The adrenal thing is a very slow process and you can only do what you can do. Making a huge amount of changes at once is a stress in itself. Cokes, simple carbos, and sugar are really a stress on the adrenals, but it is a difficult habit to stop because your body craves them when your energy is low. It is trying to get more energy. I had to stop the sugar and carbos because they crashed me right away. I think the worse your situation the more you find you cannot tolerate sugar and other adrenal stressors. But, my advice is to slowly work over to eating very healthy. That means foods the are whole and and not processed. No more pachaged meals and dinners. We're talking whole fruits and veggies and good fresh meats. Increase your protien consumption and eat some protein at every meal. I adrenal fatigue, protien is lost at a higher rate. Also, try to have a snack every 2 hours-a healthy snack. Work hard to try and get a good night's sleep every night. If you just improve nutrition and sleep, this will go a long way toward fixing the adrenal problems. Also, you can include some extra vitamins and minerals. The adrenals use vitamin B5 to make cortisone and they need lots of vitamin C. If you start to record your symptoms and keep a record of body temps, pulse, and breathing rates, you will be maiking a strong case that you are hypo. Here are a couple of sites to help with that: http://www.drrind.com/tempgraph.asp http://www.thyrophoenix.com/self_monitor.htm http://www.thyroid-info.com/articles/docdon.htm Body temperature is a measure of metabolic rate which is controlled mainly by thyroid and adrenal function. Also, find a doctor who will run the following tests: Free T3 Free T4 Thyroid antibody tests. My diagnosis was missed for years because they only ran TSH and it was always normal. The pituitary of many hypo people is not working properly and so this test will miss them. If you have free T4 run and your T4 levels are near the bottom of the range, then that is a definite sign of a failing thyroid. Also, antibodies against thyroid is enough evidence to warrant treatment. Tish
