Guest guest
Dear Members, I have been exploring the US Patent database last week and have found some interesting new patents regarding the treatment and diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The patents are sometimes very techincal but contain very detailed information. I have selected 3 interesting patents on Rnase-L, the use of cyclobenzaprine as sleep aid within CFS and the detection of a Human Blood Bacterium in CFS patients. Since the links are too long to paste into an email message, I have uploaded the 3 articles to my website where you will find a link to the Full-Text of the Patent. Here are the Abstracts for each patent: 1)United States Patent 6,207,366 Suhadolnik March 27, 2001 Title: Chronic fatigue syndrome diagnosis Inventors: Suhadolnik; J. (Roslyn, PA) Assignee: Temple University- Of the Commonwealth System of Higher Education (Phila., PA) Abstract -------- Chronic fatigue syndrome is diagnosed through quantification of low and high molecular weight forms of RNase L in cellular extracts of RNase L-containing cells such as peripheral blood mononuclear cells. A ratio of low to high molecular weight RNase L of more than 0.15 is characteristic of chronic fatigue syndrome. ------------------------------------------- 2) United States Patent 6,395,788 Iglehart, III May 28, 2002 Title: Methods and compositions for treating or preventing sleep disturbances and associated illnesses using very low doses of cyclobenzaprine Inventors: Iglehart, III; Iredell W. (Baltimore, MD) Assignee: Vela Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Lawrenceville, NJ) Abstract -------- The present invention relates to methods and compositions comprising a very low dose of cyclobenzaprine or metabolite thereof for preventing and treating sleep disturbances and illnesses manifested with sleep dysfunction including fibromyalgia syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disorders, psychogenic pain disorders or chronic pain syndromes or symptoms thereof. The present invention further relates to methods and compositions for treating sleep disturbances, chronic pain or fatigue in humans suffering from fibromyalgia syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disorders, psychogenic pain disorders, chronic pain syndromes using a very low dose of cyclobenzaprine ------------------------------------------- 3) United States Patent 6,255,467 Lindner , et al. July 3, 2001 Inventors: Lindner; Luther E. (College Station, TX); MacPhee; Kathleen (Spring, TX) Assignee: Pathobiotek Diagnostics Inc. (The Woodlands, TX) Title: Human blood bacterium Abstract -------- The present invention reports a newly-identified human blood bacterium (HBB), provides characterization, culturing and diagnostic methodologies therefor and methods for the treatment of pathophysiological states caused by the bacterium. The bacterium is apparently present in the bloodstream of all humans in very low numbers, and appears to be directly or indirectly associated with several diseases such as chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis and other " autoimmune " diseases. Also provided are uses of engineered HBB ------------------------------------------- You can read the patents in full at: http://www.cfsresearch.org/cfs/whatsnew.htm WebTV users use this link: http://www.cfsresearch.org/cfs/whatsnewnf.htm Nico Vanden Eynde
