Guest guest
I am also involved in delivering free care to migrant populations at labor camps around our state and would love to measure cultural competency amongst our students and see if we can document an effect of the experience. Please let me know if you find any instruments worth using. We should probably talk and compare notes on what we're doing. If anyone else is doing similar efforts using health professions students to deliver care to migrant farmworker populations, please let me know. I'm trying to catalogue such efforts for the National Advisory Council on Migrant Health...to see what is being done in different parts of the country. Thanks. bruce Bruce E. Guest guest
Hi!! Yes, I am interested in submitting a call for papers. I even would like to develop a panel on mental health that would include a psychologist and child psychiatrist from Mexico who work with the families in Mexican towns from where many of the families migrate from and into the stream here in the U.S. I had the opportunity of working with them in August and developed a perspective on the mental health of the migrant family that provides a broad perpective on the impact that migrant labor hasfor families and children, and their living environments in the U.S. and Mexico. They would need support to travel to the meeting. However, if this is not possible, I am want to submit a paper. I would be happy to share my publications with you. I have written more than one article from the research that occurred with the Texas Migrant Council. I am in the process now of completing a pilot study focused on the prevention of developmental delay of Hispanic infants in order to prepare them to be ready to learn and ready to read in preschool. I keep looking for a research funding opportunity through Migrant Head Start to conduct such a study with the Migrant Head Start families. Any guidance on funding sources would be appreciated. Earlier this year I reviewed research grants for Head Start, but saw that none were available to Migrant Head Start. Any chance this opportunity will open up through Migrant Head Start. There is such a need for research on these children and famlies, especially research that tests interventions that will improve outcomes for the children. Looking forward to your response.
