Guest guest
Nope, no weight gain, thankfully. As for how I knew what I needed, well, I've told this story a few times here, but hopefully everyone here is as forgetful as me, so they won't remember that they're sick of hearing it. :-) I had barely gotten to 1 grain of Armour when I began having the shakes, waking up at 3 am every night in an absolute panic, thinking I was having a heart attack. I quit the Armour, but it the panic didn't stop. Found a doc that uses saliva testing, suffered through 3 weeks while the test was being processed, and then the doc wanted to try an OTC adrenal supplement (which is a good idea, but it didn't work, and I was really getting impatient because I was convinced I was dying). Finally he let me try Cortef, and I felt better within a day or two. I'm now at 3 1/4 grains of Armour with no problems, and I only get the shakies now if I massively overwork. For adrenal supplementation, you should limit your dosage to about half of what normal adrenals make. For Cortef, this is about 15-20 mg. You will sometimes increase it, but it won't be because you have some " feeling " that you need it, but it will be if you feel yourself getting sick or know you are under some other kind of stress. I am the only one in the house that hasn't gotten the flu in the last couple of weeks, quite possibly because I increased the Cortef any time I felt like I was getting sick. But it isn't like Armour, where you try to figure out your dose based on how you feel. You stick with 15 mg per day, unless you're getting sick, when you're allowed to double the dose for no more than a week or so, or until you don't feel like you're getting sick anymore. Hope this answers your questions. Cya! -- prr " mydgtd " ryno@... wrote: For those of you who have used Cortef with your Armour, did you experience weight gain? Guest guest
R, I have been taking Cortef for a year and the first 8 months I had no weight gain hardly at all. The last few months I gained 14lbs... (the holidays may have contributed to this). On the question you had regarding how you know which to take more of... my doctor runs labs but only uses them as a guide. She mostly goes off my symptoms. Usually when you are low on Cortef it is so much worse than when you are low on Armour. You get very nauseated, extreme muscle weakness, extreme fatigue/yawning episodes. I could definitely tell when my cortisol was low. I can tell when Armour is low because my blood pressure drops, temp drops, heart seems like it works harder...pounding feeling due to the low blood pressure. Hope this helps!
