Guest guest
Well, I finished another round of Rituximab treatment for my PTLD. I'm feeling much better now than I was at the start of the treatment, so hopefully that means it's working. All the articles that you read on the web about PTLD cite about 60-80% mortality rate for this condition, but my doctors seem to be pretty optimistic about my chances for beating it, so maybe those articles are as outdated as some of the articles about PSC are! I guess one thing that I'd advise all of those who are looking at possibly having a transplant is to find out if you've had Epstein Barr virus in the past, and if not, talk to your doctors about prophylactic antivirals after transplant. There's pretty good evidence that it lowers the risk of getting PTLD (and for those who haven't had EBV the risk is significant), whereas once you've got PTLD antivirals do little if any good. Keep me in your prayers! I was feeling extremely sick until two weeks ago, when we had a meeting at my church to pray for healing. The next day the fevers were gone, and haven't come back since. I'm still not out of the woods yet though, so keep on praying! athan
