Guest guest
I wonder if anyone could give me some advice. I'm currently awaiting transplant at Kings College Hospital here in London, but in the past week I've really been suffering from sleep-reversal. Even if I get to sleep in the evening I start waking up at around midnight and stay wide awake until around 7am. I know this is a symptom of hepatic encephalopathy, but I don't have " liver-flap " (asterixis). I do have occasions where my concentration is poor, though no difficulty with tasks such as drawing etc. Apart from fairly severe pruritis and sleep-reversal I'm doing pretty well, but laying awake at night is beginning to get me down. Does anyone have any experience of this, and did you find anything that helped? I don't know whether to push for sedatives as I've seen that they are not recommended with hepatic encephalopathy. One treatment I've seen recommended is Rifaximin, though my hepatologist has never been keen on using this drug in the past (when I've discussed it for pruritis). Thanks for your help, any advice is appreciated. Dave (writing at 2:11am UK time - yup, you guessed why...) DX 2005, TX-listed 10 weeks ago. Currently 4th on the waiting list.
