Guest guest
Hi Sharon, Unfortunately, what works for one patient with FMS/CFS will NOT work for another. I was dx'ed with Fibro in 1997, but I do believe I had symptoms prior to that. I had years of female problems...had D&C and laparoscopy in 1992, hysterectomy in 1993, one ovary removed in 1995 (doc kept them in with hysterectomy because I was only 39), the second ovary removed in 1996, gall bladder removed 6 weeks later in 1996. In 1997, I decided to " get healthy " and started walking and eating healthy. After months, I still felt miserable - fatigued all the time, pain in legs, arms, back, shoulders, neck. I went to the doctor and was told I had fibro. I didn't believe her, and went to three more doc's before I finally accepted it (well, almost). I pushed myself to walk every day, but the pain never went away (until I STOPPED walking - but it was only a short remission) I have tried many different antidepressants, muscle relaxants, Neurontin, the list is too long to list, and none of them made me feel better. Infact, I had to stop taking them because the side effects were too much for me to deal with. The meds would either make my heart race and I couldn't sleep at all (and I was still exhausted) or I was so groggy during the day (even though I took the meds at night) I couldn't function. Why bother taking something if it makes you feel worse? I did take Aqua Ease, a mild water aerobic class. I enjoyed being in the water, but it had no lasting effects on my muscle pain. I took this for 6 months. I had to stop because I couldn't tolerate the change between the water and going out into the cold winter air. And they were not consistent in keeping the water temp the same every day and some days the water was chilly and it worsened my pain. Cold is very damaging to my pain.... I tend to hybernate in the winter because I can barely function in the cold and snowy days of winter. I am starting to have the pain in the bottom of my feet again. This started with me back in 1995-1996, but the doctor didn't do anything about it at the time. Its very difficult getting up in the morning. Also, I'm having trouble sleeping. I have only had sporadic problems with sleep, but since getting a regular bed (my water bed didn't fit into my new apartment) and I'm having a horrible time sleeping in this uncomfortable bed. I might as well be sleeping on the floor! Saturday, I need to have a tooth pulled (I can't afford to have the crown done, so the next thing was to have it pulled). I'm not looking forward to this...and how I might feel afterwards. All I can say is see what feels good for you. FMS and CFS are very individualized illnesses - each one suffers in unique ways and its a hit or miss way of treating it. Guest guest
Sharon, I have no advice to give... I'm currently on a pain patch with baclofen for break-thru pain. But the pain in your feet and the burning in your hands struck me because I have the pain and burning in my feet. I swear they swell when I'm laying down... should that be lying down? That always confuses me. Anyway, I have an ex who is really into holistic healing and did relaxation therapy on my hands. Darn, I'm so foggy today, I can't even thing what it's called... reflexology perhaps? It seemed to help the burning in my feet. The pain gets so bad that sometimes I can't sleep. Steroid injections where helping for a while, but my doctor has nixed them because, in her words, she didn't want a linebacker for a patient. So, no advice, but I know how you are feeling. ~ :-D (Depressed and foggy tonight) Iam New :Sharon Lets Try this again: IAM NEW and would like your advice Dear Members Hi Iam NEW unfortunately LOL NAME: Sharon STATE: California BORN: Jan 16th 1948 Michigan http://www.geocities.com/sharonlower FIBRO: Well I started having weird symtoms awhile back and went to my doctors wife, whos a licensed nurse, and she discovered it!
