Guest guest
Which is exactly what I did, of course. In many of the articles, the statement is repeatedly made that (as I said, with the exception of hep C): - Liver injury from ibuprofen use has rarely been reported... - No previous reports are found that describe ibuprofen toxicity in chronic liver disease... (the hep C article) - Like APAP, ibuprofen is remarkably free of side effects when taken in therapeutic doses... (APAP is acetaminophen) The same is NOT true for acetaminophen : - An estimated 500 deaths per year are attributed to suicidal or unintentional overdoses of acetaminophen as well as more than 50,000 emergency room visits. This is the most common form of acute liver failure observed in the United States today. - Paracetamol, as acetaminophen is known abroad, accounts for 200-500 deaths and 20-40 liver transplants annually in the United Kingdom alone. Sorry, I still don't get it. Arne Barb Henshaw wrote: Want more info? Google for Ibuprofen & liver disease - 554,

Guest guest
In my case the ban on ibuprofen wasn't originally about my PSC, but was due to my UC. There was also concern that ibuprofen could make my varices more dangerous since it's sometimes associated with GI bleeding even in healthy individuals. I think it's one of those things where there are arguments on both sides, and in the final analysis it's a judgment call based on the specific doctor and the specific patient. athan
