Oooh, these are the kinds of doctors that you really want to smack too!

I love it when they develop their own pet theories that diverge from a

centrally held theory, make no sense, and allows them to refuse to treat

the patient at all. Excuse me!! There are tons of people who sleep

during the day, they're call night shift workers! Idiot! Too bad we

could maintain a data base of *bad* doctors. Unfortunately, we'd

probably get sued for libel or something if we tried.

I guess I have been lucky with my doctors. The one I have now actually goes

and speaks about Fibro and MPS. So he has been great, but he does push me

for exercise because that is suppose to help the sleep, but it is hard when

you are in pain.

Sleeping during the day is not sound sleep, it is sleep you are trying to

make up from the real sleep you need at night. I would kick that doctor

right in the ass.

I can't say I have heard that depression causes Fibro, but I have heard

that

Fibro cause depression. My doctor treats me with anti-depressants not for

the depression as for the sleep quality. Anti-depressants are suppose to

help you sleep. From everything I have heard, sleep or I should say lack

of

deep sleep is the main cause of Fibro. I really think I would feel over

50%

better if I would get level 4 sleep. Your body heals itself at this level

and if you never get there, your body never heals. It is like re-injuring

the same thing everyday. If they could only figure out how to get all of

us

to sleep better, I think that would makes us all much better.

Hi TJ,

I'm in total agreement with you. I have the debate " Does Depression Cause

Fibro or Does Fibro Cause Depression? " with my doctors all the time. Most of

them are certain that the Fibro symptoms are physical manifestations of our

Depression and/or Anxiety. I tell them I have to disagree because I've had

Fibro for almost 20 years and only had trouble with Depression and Anxiety

for the last couple of years. They all do agree that not getting the right

kind of sleep has alot to do with it.

Just for the record, they sent me to a Sleep Disorders Specialist and he

told me there is no such thing as FMS/CFS. He also refused to do a Sleep

Study on me because he said my only problem is Depression and that I sleep

in the day instead of at night. I felt like smacking him upside the head,

grr!

When I was diagnosed with fibro (in 1980), I was told that

I had fibrositis (since renamed) and that it goes

hand-in-hand with anxiety and depression. Back then, my

doctor thought the anxiety/stress/depression caused it. I

haven't asked him recently what he thinks. The last time I

asked him what was new with fibro, he said he had just gone

to a seminar where they encouraged Prozac and Flexeril.

That Flexeril took away that ache/stiffness in the morning.

I like the Prozac too. I have very little fibro since

around 1993. I don't mean I'm cured. I still get muscle

spasms once in awhile. I get one in my right very low back

and one on the left side between my shoulder and neck. I

really only get those when I've done something to aggravate

them, like talking on the phone too long and leaning my

head against my shoulder to hold the phone. Another thing

that would aggravate the fibro was scrubbing the floors,

etc. Now I have a cleaning lady, and I feel lots better.
