Hi Dora,

I’m glad

you live in Melbourne – Stuart seems like a great doc and a nice guy who

always answers our questions without being patronising. The phone number is

9076 2223 and the Liver Clinic is run on Tuesdays but you may be able to get in

for a special appointment.

Whereabouts in Melbourne are you? We’re in the Dandenong Ranges so it’s

a bit of a hike to The Alfred but it’s worth it J

Cheers,

Kate

Thank you to everyone! I feel encouraged to not

dwell on the negatives of this horrible disease. I live in Melbourne and will

try to contact the Alfred's liver unit. As the Children's Hospital actually

work in conjunction with the Alfred, it shouldn't be too difficult for a referral

for a second opinion. Too bad if Olivia's paediatrician feels discouraged in my

lack of trust in her. This is what happens when doctors don't communicate with

me. They actually get offended when I ask for a copy of my daughter's blood

results.

At least through here I will know of what questions to ask. Thank you all so much!

I have a feeling that I will be a regular to this forum. Especially to those

that replied to me in regards to their children, shared information, I believe,

will make us stronger. Ignorance is not always bliss. -Dora

I'm not sure if you need a referral, Brad's old gastro arranged it all

for him. They will be able to tell you if you give them a call. They

are open 8am-5pm Mon -Fri.

Good luck :)

Brad has been on Salofalk and Imuran for a few years due to his UC and

that has been kept under control to the point that it is now classed

as 'inactive' but he has to stay on the meds just in case. Dr.

has put him on Urso and that has helped lower his bilirubin. It was at

around 70 last December and a few weeks ago was down to 41 and he has

put some weight back on after losing about 15 kgs since December. He

has noticed that if he doesn't drink enough water or if he sleeps in

too long on a Sunday morning (not likely with two young children, but

it does happen sometimes!) he gets very dehydrated and gets a severe

headache. He has also developed a lot of acne on his back and

shoulders. Aside from that, a bit of nausea initially and if he takes

the Urso on an empty stomach but I think that's all...

Funny story, relevant, made me cry with laughter - last night I was

chatting to an old work colleague on Facebook who had a liver

transplant a few years ago and I mentioned to Brad that this friend had

been high on 'the list'. Brad proceeded to tell me 'there is no list,

that's what the doc keeps telling me. He said that when I need a new

liver, he'll get me on.'

I said that 'That sounds like a good thing.'

Then Brad said 'yeah, unless I've got the only doctor who doesn't know

there's a freakin list!'

Thought I'd share :)

Cheers,

Kate
