Guest guest
Hi Debbie, Just wanted to pass along what happened to me. On 1-16-03 I was driving to work and the next thing I know I was waking up in a hospital. This girl broadsided me on the drivers side door and I had a serious head injury. I as bleeding on my brain. They kept me overnight in the neurological ICU. I had 2 CT scans in the hospital and got released the next day. I did have bad headaches for a couple of weeks. Fast forward to now. Every now and than I will get headaches. And I still have insomnia. BUT my short term memory is shot. The neurologist says that the headaches, insomnia and memory problems are permanent and were caused by the accident. I didn't have that much blood on my brain. I would suggest very strongly that your husband find a neurologist. Also get copies of his medical information from the hospital. Anytime you have a head injury it's serious. (And now he has to be even more careful about not getting another head injury.) Louise who hates my memory!!! > > > The dr. did all the reflex tests, etc. and everything is fine. Guest guest
Thanks so much for sharing your story, Louise. It helps a lot to know what to look out for. They did call a neurologist in this morning to look at everything and he did all the tests so that made me feel a lot better. I'm also glad they're keeping him an extra night (even though he isn't!) to keep an eye on things. This is all a new area for us, so all advice is welcome and helpful. It's actually been kinda strange to go from my total distrust of drs with my thyroid situation to hanging on their every word and trusting everything they say in this situation. I'm sure I'll be doing my own research, too, though. Thanks also for telling me to get copies of his medical info. I've done that with all my thyroid stuff, but it hadn't even occurred to me yet to do that here, so I'm glad you mentioned it. I'll definetely be doing that. I think right now the hardest thing is going to be getting him to rest. He really thinks he's going to be back to normal in a few days and out doing chores. He hates to ask anyone for help, so he's going to try to do it all himself. So my job is going to be making sure he doesn't overdo and lets himself heal. It was quite a job just getting him to go to the ER, so the next few weeks could be interesting. Thanks again, Louise. I'm sorry you had to go through all that.
