gallbladder?!?

When I was in nursing school - I woke up in the middle of the night with the

same kind of pain your had- nothing helped it except getting into a hot tub of

water- I think I spent most of the night in the tub.

The next morning, I was supposed to be at the hospital as a student nurse - I

went but after checking in with my instructor, I called our family doc and met

her at the ER.

She immediately did lab work and my white counts was so high and my liver

function test were so out of wack she thought I had the beginning of hepatitis.

If you didn't even have basic labs- that will tell alot of the story - CBC and

liver function tests are needed.

I have such an infection in the gall bladder - they couldn't even do the special

x rays to check out the gall bladder. they waited 2 weeks and the gall bladder

series showed many stones and one was stuck in the duct. I went home on Tylenol

#4. We waited for the infection to clear before they could do surgery.

I really wanted to finish nursing school but it didn't happen - they could not

schedule me for almost 2 weeks (??) so they change the medication to mepergan-

which is demerol and phenergan in a pill form.

I had the surgery and the used what was supposed to be spring break, making up

all the hours I was supposed to work in the hospital. I then went back to school

and gratuated.

There are supposed to be certain criteria thought up by some doctors that tell

who would possibly have problems with gall baldder disease - female, age in her

40's, fat and foreign. I proved that wrong- the only criteria I meet is that i

am female.

It sounds like your doc does not want you to suggest anything- maybe you need to

see her again and ask her to suggest the tests that would help. The other

option, if the pain gets too bad is the ER- they will definately do the labs.

Hope this helped - good luck on getting this treated. Pain from a gall stone is

terrible espically when there is an infection and the low grade fever could be

an indication of that.
