Guest guest
, I had my first acute attack in Jan 2000. It was my only attack that was documented by the labs until Jul 18, 2002. Since then I've had one more documented attack. The number of attacks that have not been documented by elevated panc enzymes on the lab work are way too many to count. At this point, I don't have chronic panc. (or at least it seems I don't) I have recurring acute panc. They think the attacks are being caused by the sphincter of oddi. I am going to have a third sphincterotomy tomorrow. I had two in early 2000 and I did finally get better for some time after that. Thanks to the wonderful surgeon who did my gastric bypass in December, my GI is finally taking my pain seriously. My surgeon has supplied me with plenty pain med and phenergan to keep me as comfortable as possible. In my case, the pancreas enzymes are not always elevated with my pain. In fact, they are usually not elevated. However, thankfully, with these recent attacks my liver enzymes are elevating more each time. Actually, my liver enzymes have been elevated since at least March but no one would pay any attention until they became major elevated. With my last hospitalization this past Wednesday, my enzymes more than doubled from the time they admitted Wed night til very early Thursday morning. The surgeon said they were dangerously elevated this time. I haven't seen the numbers so I'm not sure how high they were. My surgeon assures me that once they repeat the sphincterotomy I will quit having problems. I am trying to remain cautiously optimistic. Re: Pain when I haven't eaten?? , My body is much like that, too. I can eat some things one day and be fine. The other, I'll be in the ER in misery! I am sorry you've been through so much lately. I've not been to the ER - thank God - in five whole weeks! I am thrilled! There are certain things, however, that I know not to even try and smell (no corn products - which cuts out tacos and any mexican food just about)! How long have you had pancreatitis? I'm going on four years. Weston wrote:, I often have the episodes of short (10-20 minute) severe pain without eating.
