Guest guest
I just got home from a hospital stay for Cholangitis and had to have my blocked stent recplaced. I had to see a different G.I. than my regular since he wasn't on call. The new G.I. just came back from a conference on ERCP's and has an aggressive philosphy in treating dominent strictures like mine. He took out my single blocked stent which was a 10fr. and aggressively balloon dilated the ducts, then put in 2 smaller 7 fr. stents side by side. He believes that aggressively opening the ducts with multiple stents and balloon dilation will eventuually keep the ducts open. He said he would like my G.I. who will be following me again to put in 3 stents side by side in 3 months. He said that if you have 2 or 3 they are less liekly to get totally blocked and if they do, bile can still drain between. Has anyone had this or heard of it? I'm not sure the risks are worth the possible benefit and still need to talk to my own G.I. about it this week. I just wondered what everyones opinion or experience was.
