Guest guest
H. Pylori has been implicated as a possible causal factor in PSC and there's a substantial literature on this. I've sketched out an article for our newsletter "PSC-News," but here's no room for this in our upcoming Spring issue. Dr. Chapman hasn't given up on the idea that it could be a trigger for PSC. Some pets carry H.Pylori. Some pet-lovers in the UK, and probably in the US too! actually kiss their pets. Not a wise thing to do! It's interesting that one of the questions on the questionaire being currently used for the UK PSC genome- wide research, where they hope to get DNA samples from 1,000 PSC patients, asks whether you've ever kept any pets. PLEASE NOTE that our annual PSC-Support UK meeting this summer at Oxford with Dr. Chapman, will be on Sat. afternoon, 1st August. This is especially relevant for those UK members of this group but also for anybody else who may be in the UK at that time. We may be able to arrange free accomodation. Guest guest
- H. pylori has been mentioned before and, although I have cats (I'm well below the crazy old cat lady quota), I had a significant exposure to H. pylori thanks to my late MIL. She had a serious problem with oozing infection at a PEG feeding site with a severe H. pylori infection when she lived with us about 18 months before I was diagnosed. I learned too late how careless she had been with hand washing, etc. after touching her PEG site -- the H. pylori must have been everywhere. At the time of my diagnosis, the only indicator that anything was amiss was a sudden spike in my cholesterol, otherwise it may have been years before I had PSC symptoms and was diagnosed.
