Guest guest
Sounds like he is carrier. It is my understanding that there is a particular mutation that causes male carriers to be missing the vas deferens. Leigh

Guest guest
Yes, this is what they are finding. That men who are diagnosed with CBAVD (congential bilateral absence of the vas deferens) actually have a mild form of CF. I can't remember the particulars as regards mutations, but I am pretty sure I read that they do have 2 CF mutations -- but that the particular one or ones that they have is associated with CBAVD and no other symptoms. ^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^ mama to , 23 mo, wCF and alpha-1 and to , 3 yr 11 mo w/alpha-1 Does he have CF? Hi all, For once I have a question. I was at my nieghborhood association meeting last night planning our annual Halloween Haunt. At the end of the meeting I was passing around a basket of ribbons and urged everyone to take one and explained what they were for. One person told me in a male, non-chalant tone, " I have CF " . So he took a chair next to me while we talked. I said to him so then you are familiar with all the medications. He looked at me with a puzzled look and said " No " . I looked at him with a puzzled look and said in amazement " really " . He then told me that he was told by doctors that because he did not have the baby making component that CF men are missing that the only explanation is that he has CF. He presents with NO other symptoms and is not taking any form of medication. Also, I asked him if they did genetic testing of his blood and he said he thought they did and then seemed to ramble off the subject. He and his wife were trying to have a baby and that is why he was tested. I guess my question at this point is obvious. Could he have CF and not present any form of lung, liver or pancreatic problems even in his late 20's or early 30's? He even admitted that maybe he does not have it. Thank you in advance for your responses. ===== Tucker Mom of Milan 4 wcf
Guest guest
No, he has two copies of mutations that apparently only confer vas deferens, but he has this because he has TWO mutations, just as any other cf person does, not because he is a carrier only. I looked this one up, and am running fast, but the Toronto Cystic Fibrosis Mutation Table lists all the genes that, if appearing in two in one person will cause this. n
