Guest guest
I just was going to post this info on bugbear/tanatos. It uses fake e-mail addys to spread the virus. It also has info on removal and protection. The worm almost made it to my hard drive a second time...Outlook just started hanging while trying to get the mail. When I restarted Norton was disabled! I had to check my mail from my Macintosh computer, delete the e-mail containing the worm, then start Outlook again. Anyway, it is a very sneaky worm! Extremely destructive and DANGEROUS. http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/tanatos.shtml )O( mama to , 2yo, wCF and alpha-1 and to , 4 yo, w/alpha-1 but no CF something wierd I got a virus notification that a virus had been intercepted before the email let it get to me. Guest guest
Hi, I am afraid this bugbear will " entertain " us for a while. It's really the nastiest worm I have seen on the net so far. Grandmom Bev, your Norton can't help you here because bugbear disables all anti-virus programs. The only chance I see at the moment is, that you don't open attachments with a size of 50.8 kb. That's the only detail that is always the same when bugbear appears. , have you set your e-mail program in a way that it opens attachments automatically? I still don't see how bugbear is able to install itself on the computer? Sorry for the off-topic message, but this virus is really dangerous Peace Torsten, dad of Fiona 5wcf e-mail: torstenkrafft@... Guest guest
I have had norton anti virus catch it, at least, twice and quarantine it. Why does that not work for others (ie. grandma bev)? Guest guest
No, I do not open attachments, and don't have them set to open automatically! If you read the link I sent, there is a security vulnerability that it says was addressed by a patch. But apparently it wasn't fully addressed, since this has happened twice on my computer! (I stopped it in its tracks the second time...I won't be leaving my desk from now on whenever e-mail is open!) What happens is that the send/receive just stalls out...indefinitely...I end up resetting the computer, and then I see that Norton is disabled. I guess the first time it went on long enough that it got through because it seems I may have had the worm on my computer. )O( mama to , 2yo, wCF and alpha-1 and to , 4 yo, w/alpha-1 but no CF Re: something wierd Hi, I am afraid this bugbear will " entertain " us for a while. Guest guest
Oh, Bev! I have absolutely too much going on on Saturdays. Especially that Saturday! Matt (dh) is taking certification classes for teaching that morning, plus I work. So as it is I have a babysitter coming to watch the kids while I work. On top of that it is my homeowner's association workday (I'll be doing a " take-home assignment " for that, I suppose!). So I already have two places to be that I can't be...I am adding a third...the ED day! I really really want to go, too. IF I don't work, I can come. I won't know until just a few days before though, maybe as late as Thursday. As sporadic as work is these days, when it comes, I must take it! )O( mama to , 2yo, wCF and alpha-1 and to , 4 yo, w/alpha-1 but no CF something wierd I got a virus notification that a virus had been intercepted before the email let it get to me. Wierd part is, the sender was listed as doriownbey from a hot mail.com account. I don't have a hotmail account! Dori Ownbey... " If I haven't grown up by now, I'm never going to.
