Guest guest
To everyone I have been reading these posts for a few months and want to send my prayers out to everyone struggling with this disease. I am a 24 year old female and had an attack of acute pancreatitis last year, went to the ER, given pain meds and was sent home. The problem is the pain never went away (the mid abdomen pain shooting through to your back). The pain is tolerable, I don't need pain meds but I wonder what it is from. I went to a very good GI who ran all the tests (MRCP, endoscopy etc) and his answer " Well your pancreas is not 'normal' but I don't want to do any more invasive testing at the risk of upsetting your pancreas " . I believe he feels something like an ERCP would cause an acute attack and from what I have read here that seems like a valid possibility. Well thats fine to do nothing but my question is - can I have ongoing damage? I did have one more occasion where my lipase was elevated after three days of constant diarrhea (however no increase in pain) but the GI decided that was due to pancreatic insufficiency. Alcohol is a thing of the past after I researched the damage it can cause and I avoid fatty foods but still the pain is there. If anyone with chronic pancreatitis started out like this or if anyone has ideas or advice please let me know. Thank you all so much for your support and wealth of information. Guest guest
, It sounds like you have had step 1. Step 2 the pains hit harder each time. Step 3 is the hospital stay. Becareful you may be walking a fine line. > To everyone > > I have been reading these posts for a few months and want to send my > prayers out to everyone struggling with this disease. Guest guest
, Welcome to the Group! My pancreatitis started while I was pregnant... 12 years ago. I had constant diahrea and my sugar was up and down so much that they put me on insulin to try to control it. (But... I was never diagnosed with pancreatitis until I got to the end of my rope as far as the pain was going...then I only found out about it by reading my chart at my old pcp's office.) That was in Jan or Feb of this year... yep...THIS year! Now I am Dx'd as chronic... I have pain 24-7 (controlled somewhat for the last 3 days) and its only getting worse. My first ERCP was in Aug of 2001 and then they diagnosed pancreas divism. (so I knew where my CP came from anyway) My next ERCP was in June of 2002, had a sphincterotomy and stent placed (pancreatic) and Still have the pain. Oh well... better luck next time I hope. My GI is referring me to a bariatric surgeon this month for the gastric bypass...maybe kill two birds with one stone. I hope to see you posting again soon! {{{HUGZ}}} WELCOME! ---------------------------------
