,

sometimes, the juices that contain the enzymes that flow

through the pancreatic duct and eventually autodigest the

pancreas for people with chronic pancreatitis, can burn

through the pancreas and cause damage to other organs. This

is one way you can still have pain even if the pancreas is

removed. Another way is that the central nervous center has

had pain occurr all the time in the pancreas area and even

if removed, the central nervous system now thinks that pain

in that area is normal. so it continues sending pain signals

to the brain. This is just some of the stuff I've gotten

from reading articles and some of the talks at the last two

Symposiums. If you want to hear more about the Central

Nervous System issue, you might want to get the tapes from

the last two Symposiums ( I don't remember which one it was

discussed at sorry) and watch them and read over the

material (handouts, etc) that was given. Very interesting

stuff. Hope this helps some.

email Tull (tull@...) and tell him you would

like a copy of the tapes for the 2000 and 2001 Symposiums (I

think there might also be one for 1999) and all the handouts

that went with them. They cost about $20 for each.
