Guest guest
Pat B states in digest 476 " X-rays are worthless in MY opinion at this point. If you are speaking of standard x-rays they fail to show soft tissue and tendon involvement that a MRI would show. PA can attack the tendons and cause agony while the bones are still in mint condition. " While I agree with your statement about early stage PA, a good radiologist can pick up very subtle CHANGES in joint space in affected areas, as the disease progresses. A good set of baselines is important especially if dealing with disability insurance. There is a nuclear medicine scan that will show tendon and soft tissue inflammation called a bone scan. You are injected with a radioactive tracer and then " filmed " lying on your back with arms and legs slightly to the side. I had this done when initial x-rays were inconclusive and every joint lit up (positive finding). Imagine a picture of your skeleton where EVERY joint glowed. I looked like a Christmas tree. This did absolutely nothing to improve my treatment but it did prove to me (and, maybe, my doctor) that there was a REAL inflammatory process going on in my joints and I'm not really in need of antidepressants or a pat on the head. And besides, MRI's of every joint would cost thousands of dollars while a bone scan is, relatively speaking, inexpensive and would probably be approved by your insurance carrier. Barry Moderator note: Excellant point. Although bone scans are not regular x-rays they seem well worth investigating. Thanks for the information. It will be brought up at my very next doctor's appt. Guest guest
Sorry the last post was repeated three times! I really only sent it once. Don't know what happened. Hope everyone has a good weekend! La Thought from LaRita " The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not 'Eureka!' (I found it!) but 'That's funny ...' Hey Teri, She's on the " stop eating for a few days, take psyllium, and drink a fresh juice when you're feeling lousy " cleanse. It's really low key and laid back; the reason she's losing so much stuff, I suspect, is that she was raised in a " normal " American household and has been mostly vegetarian w/o any dairy for about five years. I imagine her body's just really ready to be done with the remnant of the dirtier years. Truthfully, I'm a bit jealous too! -Todd __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, I rarely respond on this listserve, but I do review it frequently and would like to offer a model for outreach with Latina MFWs in California. I have been conducting domestic violence research with migrant farmworker women for many years and have worked with Lideres Campesinas in California for a long time. They have created one of the best outreach models that I have ever seen because it comes from the women themselves. They have not only done " outreach " as we often describe it professionally, but they have created their own organization and have attained national and international recognition. The model is mainly focused on domestic violence, but they do other projects as well and the essentials of the model would be good for anyone interested in reaching a population from the grassroots. You can contact Mily Trevino Sauceda, she is the Director of Lideres. Their office number is 909-856-7776. Or you can contact me for more information as well. I am still doing a lot of domestic violence outreach work and research with migrants and Latina immigrants here in Wisconsin. If I can be of any assistance, just let me know. best wishes, , PhD, RN Assistant Professor, School of Nursing University of Wisconsin-Madison At 10:57 PM 6/11/2002 +0000, you wrote: > >To Post a message, send it to: Groups > >To Unsubscribe, send a blank message to: > -unsubscribe >------------------------------------------------------------------------ > >There are 10 messages in this issue. > >Topics in this digest: > > 1. Guest guest
Terry and Bonnie... I'm also interested in hearing any discussion about Neurontin...and it's long term side effects. I know I can do research online, but users can often offer valuable personal info, I've found. Am considering requesting it myself to help with scoli pain and fibromyalgia.
