What about a hida scan to see if the gallbladder is functioning? These were the two tests that revealed my gallbladder was bad back in 98. , Actually, three different ultrasounds of the gallbladder were done during the two week period immediately following my acute pancreatitis attack in April '01. The laproscopic surgeon and my GI wanted to eliminate the gallbladder as a source for my acute attack. It was found then to be " abnormally small, " but healthy and without obstruction or stones. A HIDA scan was not done. My doctor seemed concerned about my recent weight loss and the new location of the pain. With his proding and poking, he also seemed to find something not quite to his liking right below my right rib cage. It is sensitive to poking in that location. In the past, my pain has always been on the left, where the pseudocyst in the tail is, or lower right where the pseudocysts are at the pancreas head. This pain is higher up, and somehow different. Two nights ago it hit me...WHAM!....as I was sitting watching TV, suddenly and immobilizing me so that I could NOT stand or straighten up. It scared me because Austin was asleep and I was alone, and I could not even get out of the chair to go to the bathroom to get my pain meds. It finally subsided enough so I could do so, and then I had to wait another 40 minutes or so before the Percocet took effect. I absolutely hate taking the pain meds anwhere near bedtime because they give me terrible, weird dreams....very realistic, but weird and unsettling. I will do anything to avoid taking them at night, especially when I am alone like that, but sometimes it's the only way I can ease the pain enough to go to sleep. I am playing the waiting game with radiology now trying to schedule this CT-scan. I called at 8:30 this morning and was told they would have to call me back to schedule....here it is 3 1/2 hours later and still no word! Ah, don't you just love/hate waiting for the phone to ring? Guest guest
Heidi, boy do I know that waiting game with trying to schedule things! I mean, it should be simple, but it seems it seldom is! I do know the pain you speak of. When it is at it's worst, you cannot even move! Take care and let us know what you find out.
