Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have a question about constipation. Emma has been constipated for a few months now. Most of the time when she poops, it is little pellets (like 30-50 at a time). We have increase her night feeds so that she gets more fluids but this doesn't seem to have any affect. She pees a whole lot, most nights right through the diaper and continually throughout the day. She was on Lactolase (not sure of the spelling) which helped but after a month, the prescription ended. I hate to put her back on this as I prefer not to make her dependent upon any more medications than she already takes (I know eventually she will be on more but you know what I mean). I would prefer to find a natural method of loosening up her stools. My current idea is to get some prune juice and see if I can get her to drink it, mix it in with some of her food or simply give her a bolus of it once a day. Anyone else ever had this problem. I was told pellets are a sign of dehydration but yet she seems to be peeing so much it just doesn't seem like that is the problem. Thanks, I would appreciate any insight anyone can provide. - mom to Emma 2 years w/cf and Isabelle 4 years old wo/cf ________________________________________________________________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! Guest guest
We have had the same problem off and on with Jake -- plenty of fluids, lots of pee, tiny pellets (though his are more like 10-20 at at time, nickel or dime sized). Could it be she needs fewer enzymes? When we cut back by 1/2 capsule it seemed to help. I would check with your nutritionist first before doing this. Our nutritionist recommended staying away from bananas (Jake can eat 2 whole bananas a day) as they can be constipating. And increasing fiber -- we put some flax seed meal in his oatmeal for a while and that helped. And she recommended 1/2 tsp Citrucel in a cup of water, make sure she drinks plenty with this. It's a natural laxative not anything you can become dependent on. Hope this helps! Constipation makes so miserable. Not fun for anyone. )O( mama to , 2yo, w/CF, and , 4yo, no CF Another Poop (constipation) related question Hi everyone, I have a question about constipation. Guest guest
You might try some white grape juice...that always loosened up Triana (which in her case was a bad thing, since she tends to diarrhea or loose stools if she's not on enzymes).
