Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am searching for any help you all may have re: scalp problems. Can someone direct me to a post (or posts) which deals with how to choose the right shampoo, as well as other ways to deal with rosecea that also affects your scalp? My scalp feels very tight at times, and dry, with scaly patches or bumps that can itch like crazy, but become itchier and/or sore if scratched. Exercising (& sweating) makes the itching flare up, too. On my forehead right along my hairline that skin feels tight & is easily irritated by combing my hair. The only thing so far that has HELPED (but not eliminated) the problem, is washing my hair in lukewarm water. I tried my husband's Head'n Shoulders shampoo but I didn't like it, and I also tried Scalpacin(sp?) but if anything both of these made it worse, not better. I didn't like baby shampoo either, but I didn't stick with it too long: it left my hair with no body whatsoever. I currently use Finesse shampoo & rinse. It doesn't seem to help, but it doesn't seem to hurt either. I'm very curious to know what has helped other people. What kind of shampoo & rinse do you use? (I have long fine hair so I really have to use the rinse too, in order to comb it out, not rip it out, after washing!) Are they any products or ingredients I should avoid? Also just recently I've noticed that sometimes I have a distinct odor to my head. It's kind of an " oily " smell (for lack of a better word) that I've actually smelled coming from other people and always assumed that their hygiene was not good. So you can just imagine, I was quite distressed when I could smell it on me! I wash my hair every day or every other day; only very rarely (sick with a cold) would I let it go longer than that. Should I be washing my hair more often now? Might there be a there a topical medication, like the one I use my face, that's specifically made for the scalp? I apprecitate any suggestions or help you may have about this. Thanks everybody!
Guest guest
Scalp problems Hi I am probably the worse person in the world to be giving advise. I have received so much and it seems that I have given so little. I don't blamce folks if they start ignoring my posts but truly, I am so confused and distraught that I feel that I have nothing helpful to say. It seems that I am stuck. Just stuck with this awful skin disease, affliction or I just don't care what it's called. I hate it. No matter what it is. So if you are still reading, I think that you have seborrhea. I have scapl problems. HAd them it seems all my life. I remember as a very small child being taken to the fmily doctor by my father for some reason which escapes me now and he ( the doctor ) commented on the sides of my face by the hair line. I used to wear 2 long braids. I remember the doctor saying to me, " tell you mommy that she has to wash your hair everyday " Now this was in the 1950's and my mom just did not believe in washing hair everyday, especially in the winter months. Anyway, back to my story. I have scalp problems and last month I had a horrible bout of the seborrhea on my face. the forehead was broken out, full of greasy scales, and red and inflammed. My eye brows were also affected and my nose, cheek folds and even the chin. the poor old derm. i had asked for a referral to him to see about anything new int he treatment of rosacea and the man hardly mentioned the word rosacea except to say that I had some facial redness and that I could get rid of that with some laser treatments. Sorry , gone off topic again. Anyway, he told me to wash everday with one of the following shampoos. I had just had my hair coloured and highlighted so I did not take his recs. until about a week later when my face was not responding very well to the topical Nizoral. Anyway, the four shampoos are Selsun Nizoral Head and Shoulders Sebcur T I have been using these everyday since April 1st and although the greasy scales on my scalp and reduce , I can still see some scaling. He did not say how long to keep this up. I will check with my family doc. this week. I live in a very samll place and the derm did not want to see me again. he is very busy since we only have the one derm to ocver a very large area. He usually writes ( I am told ) very detailed followuo instruction for the referring physican. He did tell me to allow the suds form the shampoo to run down over my face. Sorry to be so long. Hope that it provided a little help. if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. > See http://www.drnase.com for info on his recently published book. > > To leave the list send an email to rosacea-support-unsubscribe > >
