We are also looking forward to encouraging comments from parents, who got a child after 40. Guest guest
The Holdeman's send their congratulation as well!! Steve (my husband) was the baby of his family (7 years between himself and his older sister with cf). But that means all he remembers is being the baby!! LOL! The fact that your new one will not even be a carrier gives others of us hope at the thought of more children.... Best wishes and good luck with the new bundle when he arrives! Guest guest
Hi, thanks for all the congrats and good advice. Silke's only problem so far is the heartburn. During the pregnancy with Fiona it bothered her for the last two months, but now it has begun after only four months. Any ideas? Some of you have asked about the CVS. We had some problems getting an appointment, because it is still no routine procedure here. And at the last minute the doc decided to do it vaginal and not through the belly. I don't like surprises :-(( I think the doc decides which way to go depending on the position of the embryo. I could follow the whole procedure via ultrasound. Silke did feel close to nothing, it was a quick procedure although they had to do it twice to get enough embryo cells. And to me it looked very professionell and safe. We could drive home immediately afterwards and Silke rested for two days then. Since it is a boy and not even a carrier there is no risk that the result might be false negative. Guest guest
Dear Torsten, Hope that you received my earlier CONGRATULATORY mail (having computer probs again)! SO very interested in your opinion on CVS... my husband and I have been thinking about having another child and are considering the option of CVS if we DO get pregant again. Basically, the " technical, en-vitro route " is not an option for us at this time, as: 1) I am DEAD set against hormone therapy for myself (now 36), as I have a family history rampant with breast cancer AND I have two very close friends (aged 30 and 38) that have undergone hormone therapy in attempts to get pregnant...alas, no pregancies, but sadly they too now have breast cancer (and have NO family histories). 2) It's not in our budget as we are suffering from the depressed economy here in the U.S. Currently we are BOTH unemployed and eeking out what we can for meds for our Jack. 3) I'm very much against having an Amnio (performed here in the U.S. at sixteen weeks) and THEN being left with the very, very moral burden of choice. I don't want to have to go down that road, period. Pardon me for sharing such personal opinions and feelings... but I am wondering if you and Silke too were of the same mindset that my husband and I currently are? Honestly, I would have never believed that I'd be faced with such decisions in my lifetime but everything's gotten so very real and serious since our darling Jack's birth. I never thought that I'd have to worry about shopping cart germs, or about burning logs in the fireplace, or about Jack holding the paw of our 4 pound Chihuahua (who LIVES to dig in the dirt) during CPT for comfort! I wish I could've chosen a less scary route for " Mommy-hood " , but I am finally dealing quite well with it (although, it IS FLU season). Thoughts on your part would be so greatly appreciated! Love, Paige (Mum to Jack, 20 months old with CF) Re: We are pregnant! > Hi, > > thanks for all the congrats and good advice. Silke's only problem so far is > the heartburn. Guest guest
Hi Paige, PID is illegal in Germany and since we were not game to travel through half of Europe and pay for it out of the pocket the " technical route " was no option for us. But nevertheless I am with you about your concerns. And I also agree that an amnio is (too) late and if you have to deal with two identical CF mutations it is not precise enough (that's what we were told). Fortunately we didn't have to decide anything. While an abortion is physically easier at that earlier stage I won't even think about the emotional burden. I saw my child during the CVS and also we were dead set not to have a second child with CF I was very unsure after the procedure whether we could really terminate the pregnancy if " necessary " . I don't mind to discuss the pros and cons in public, but at the end all decisions are personal and it is a must that both partners are of the same opinion. Sorry to hear that you both are jobless. It's shocking how fast the economy is going down. Two years ago you had full-employment over there. But I am not going to say who I think is responsible for the mess :-(( Merry Christmas to you and your family.
