Guest guest
Teething at 15 weeks?????? bit young isnt it appetite problems breastfeeding stressful Liam and I have been havinh some dramas over feeding, he is 15 weeks now. He is only wanting to feed now for about 5-10 mins per time, like every 3 hours. He use to feed about 10 mins per side or longer. I have tried to force him but that only stresses him and me and then afecting my milk supply. I am scared that he is not getting enough, I wouldnt care about this if he didnt have CF. I really want to continue breastfeeding, but it is really starting to try me. This has been getting pregresively worse over the last few weeks. He is not sick, no fever, etc. But has been grizzily and irritable over the las few days, but still laughing and smiling as well. I dont really know what is going on and I hate when I dont understand what is the matter, its not like he can say whats wrong, if he could it would make it easier!! He is still putting on enough weight and is in the 75% percentile now so I guess he is getting enough but I dont really know, he also wants to be carried around all the time now and often now keen on laying down. Anyway just needed to vent a bit. I have just feed him to sleep on the bed, he actually wanted my breast to comfort which was nice for both of us. mum to Liam ------------------------------------------- The opinions and information exchanged on this list should IN NO WAY be construed as medical advice. Guest guest
Hi I no nothing about cf, but my babies started getting there teeth at 3 months and they did everything you said. They would only nurse long enough for the hunger pains, but it hurt to nurse so they quit till they were hungry again. My advice would be just relax, keep nursing as much as you can. Make sure you do not have a new deodorant, lotion or anything smelly that the baby might not like. Keep watch on babies weight and do nothing different unless you see a problem. Void this advice if someone says something different. Nanci appetite problems breastfeeding stressful Liam and I have been havinh some dramas over feeding, he is 15 weeks now. Guest guest
Could be teething. Some babies don't want to eat as much when they are teething, and definitely act cranky and don't want to be put down. He is a bit young for solids, but maybe you could try a nice teething biscuit from the freezer? If he really actively and excitedly gums this, or is drooling lots, or chewing on things, it's teething. Keep going on the nursing! You will get through this. I wouldn't try to force him, as long as he is still gaining weight he's fine. )O( mama to , 2yo, w/CF, and , 4yo, no CF appetite problems breastfeeding stressful Liam and I have been havinh some dramas over feeding, he is 15 weeks now. Guest guest
Actually, I don't think so. Most babies are cutting the first tooth at 6 months. Mine were late and didn't cut the first till 9-10 months, but they had bouts with teething-related pain and crankiness from 4 months. He is almost 4 months! The crankiness of teething can start severeal months before the tooth actually erupts. And, my friend just had her second, she is about Liam's age, a little younger. She started with teething behaviors at 3 months! The mom is pretty frustrated and exhausted, but it's definitely teething. Oh, I forgot, homeopathic chamomila and/or Hyland's Teething Tablets work really well for most teething babies. The Teething Tablets are a mix of chamomila and other homeopathics. )O( mama to , 2yo, w/CF, and , 4yo, no CF Re: appetite problems breastfeeding stressful Teething at 15 weeks?????? bit young isnt it

Guest guest
, You may already know this but if you keep Liam nursing on the same side for the whole feeding he will get to the hind milk which has more calories. If he only nurses for a short time and then wants to nurse again soon, put him back on that same side at first to get to the more nutrient-dense milk. Try and stay relaxed. Lots of babies go through little nursing strikes. At least he is still nursing. And, while most babies don't get teeth at 15 weeks, many of them have teething issues for months. Guest guest
, Lots of babies begin teething at this age -- it doesn't mean that a tooth will break through the gums soon, though. It's a process -- often a longgggggg, painful process. You said you were concerned about your milk supply since Liam isn't nursing as much, so I was curious what nursing moms like had to say. , when your kiddos weren't as intersted in nursing because of teething, did you just " go with the flow " and not worry about dwindling milk, or did you pump and freeze just to be sure you didn't dry up? Guest guest
, This can be a sign of acid reflux. My daughter Emma, who is now two years old and diagnosed at birth with CF, was a breastfeed baby supplemented with formula (as instructed by her CF doctors). She had severe feeding problems which started right around when five months or so. She showed absolutely none of the typical signs of acid reflux, no crying when laying down, no throwing up (while her sister vomited constantly when she was an infant she went through 3-5 outfits a day), no signs of acid reflux at all. She just slowly over time started getting progressively worse about eating. I brought it up to her doctors and they felt I was making her nervous or upset when she was eating and gave me instructions to relax when I was feeding her. This did not help at all. I kept pushing and pushing the issue because I was getting more and more frustrated with her not eating hardly anything. Eventually they tested her for acid reflux (milk scan it is often called) as well as how well her stomach empties (swallow study). The test for acid reflux indicated she did in fact have acid reflux. They labeled it as silent acid reflux since there were no real symptoms present other than lack of appetite or desire to eat. She was put on meds but they didn't do much for her. She eventually stopped drinking and eating totally. Her doctors were less than attentive when this happened (the fact that she was not peeing at all at night didn't seem to bother them). I lost it on them and transferred her to her current CF team at CHOP. They hospitalized her that day for dehydration and when she left, we started using an NG tube to supplement her feeding. Her meds were also changed and she started eating again. At that point, she finally started vomiting on a regular basis but at least she was eating. It is now a year and a half later and she still has a G tube because she won't drink enough liquids during the day. She only eats pureed foods but for the most part, she keeps them down (vomits here and there) and her weight is great. She's around the 50th percentile (much heavier than her older non-CF sister at this age). So ... if it continues, I would talk to your doctors about getting him tested for acid reflux. Silent acid reflux is not common and they made me feel like I was totally crazy and neurotic about her eating. I wished I had know earlier about silent reflux, I would have insisted they test her a lot sooner rather than four months after it all started. Good Luck. If you need any more information, let me know. I wished I had know earlier about silent reflux, I would have insisted they test her a lot sooner rather than four months after it all started. Good Luck. Guest guest
A few are even born with teeth...so yup...you can start teething any time...have a cousin-in-law who didn't get any till age 2. Shanna mom of Triana, age 2 wcf appetite problems breastfeeding stressful Liam and I have been havinh some dramas over feeding, he is 15 weeks now. Guest guest
, I know you have gotten alot of feedback already on this one, but I thought I'd add some other ideas too.... At 15 weeks Liam is likely to be a much more efficient breast-feeder. He may be taking all he needs in a short amount of time. If he is still gaining weight well, then I think you can relax on the timing issue. The other thing is, Liam has come to that age where he is very aware of his surroundings. Everything is interesting and it's more difficult to get them to focus on nursing. I have had troubles with Leila over that very same issue. She gets distracted by lights, or her big sister, or the dog barking, or you name it. She has had days where she barely nursed during the day (much to the dismay of my breasts) and then realized she was starving in the evening (after her noisy sister went to bed) and pigged out. Leila is a little butterball, so I know she eventually gets enough. As far as teething goes, I have to agree with the rest, the process starts long before you see the teeth. Leila has been chewing on stuff for awhile now. Hang in there, , nursing is definitely worth all the trials and tribulations! Guest guest
thnaks for youe info Liam has been diagnosed with Silent reflux too. They put him on zantac but it didnt seem to work. I have stoped it and am now using 5 drops of lemon juice during the day in water, this helps to alkaline the stomach and make it less acid. I have dont that all day today and he has had a very good day with feeding, he even was happy laying down, NO screaming!!! horray for the mother who carries Liam around all day apart from when he sleeps. monique mum to Liam4 months wcf Re: appetite problems breastfeeding stressful , This can be a sign of acid reflux.
