Guest guest
Dinah, Your feeling are completely understandable. I was a nervous wreck and was reduced to taking Xanax while waiting. So, it won't let up until after the approval. I flew to Durham, but hubby is afraid of flying as well. I went alone. I feel the same way you do. I like to hurt solo. I had an angel who was there when I got out of surgery and she called my hubby. Flo will disagree with me. But, going alone is a great option if you don't want to be bothered. It depends on your personality. I just don't need that when I am sick. went alone as well. So this is doable. I also left town less than 48 hours after surgery. I was fine, so I went home and email Dr R from there. Just do what you feel is best. Several people came to visit and that was cool, and they didn't stay long. You will be oblivious to most goings on right after surgery anyway. On the insurance, talk to one rep every time. Georgia Brown goes the extra mile. She will even fax your approval letter if you need her to. She a cut above the rest. I had a back up as well, but Georgia is good and she has been there a long time. le

Guest guest
Dinah, I know what you mean about being obsessed with the surgery. It's all I can think of too. I too don't want my husband to go , but he's determined. I guess we are lucky. Lots of men would just turn away. We are driving from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to Durham. Thats 1150 miles one way. Oh my aching everything! We do not want to fly either. We figured it out and It would cost about he same driving or flying. Of course there would be less wear and tear on the car and lets not forget about the time. But his majesty always does it the hard way. I really do not care as long as I get this operation. Hey woman, if you want to drive, go for it! You can make a mini vacation out of it. Good luck to you. I know it will all work out for you. Keep us appraise of your progress. Guest guest
Dinah, I feel the same way as you do. When I had surgery I chose to bring my 19 year old daughter with me. I knew she would not hover over me. I just wanted someone to make sure I was still breathing and call 911 if needed. My husband and I talked about it, he does not like being a caregiver so we decided this would be best. I was happy to hear a familiar voice when I was brought back to my room. Good Luck. Guest guest
Hey Dinah, I live in Illiniois, I have BCBS of MN... they are requiring me to take to trips to Durham, and I still don't know if they will approve me. I got a request for additional information after Dr. R sent in my request for preauthorization, and one of the things they requested was notes from my clinic visit with Dr. R. They won't even consider me for approval until I see him. So, if I fly out and they don't give me approval, I will not be too happy. Cross your fingers for me! Guest guest
Dean, I thought my car trip was long. I am ashamed I only drove from MD. I was surprised at how much easier the trip home was compared to getting there. I have joint pain and get stiff when riding for a long period of time. I was surprised how much less pain and stiffness I had in only one week and only 4 days post op. BTW I didn't have any trouble with the bumps in the road either and I hope you find it as easy as I did. It is not recommended but I drove most of the way home myself while my daughter slept. I must have been a more difficult patient than I thought. It won't be long now. Darlene Lawton wrote: > Dinah, > I know what you mean about being obsessed with the surgery. Guest guest
Marie, You are right about the baby. His other grandmother has been on vacation this week so he has been with her. When I complained my husband told me I was being unfair because she didn't say anything when I took him away to N.C. for a week. I asked him how he knew she didn't say anything. I have missed him and am anxious for him to return on Sun. As far as the other matter goes, Yes, I always head for the bathroom but am ususally surprised that it is a false alarm. But I take no chances. Glad all is well for you. I can't believe that tomorrow it will have been 4 weeks already. Guest guest
le, In reading the posts from today I picked up your phone #. Where do you live in Alabama. I live in Andalusia, Al in southern alabama. I would love to talk to you about your surgery and your insurance story. BCBS scared me to day with talk of two trips to Durham. Guest guest
Hi Dinah in Alabama, Yes, I have to fly to Durham before BCBS will even consider me for approval, and yes, I am very afraid that they will turn me down. I am a stay at home mom of four kids, I can not in any way afford this extra trip, plus the psych profile that it doesn't see like they will pay. I am hoping that once I put out several hundred dollarss, they will approve me. I am putting everything I would put for an appeal in the envelope that goes to BCBS. Hopefully, they will approve me without a hitch! Good luck to you, too! Deb in IL

Guest guest
Dinah, I will be at home if you would like to call. I did my clinic visit before they asked. They ask the same of in Tuscaloosa. It's just their way of trying to wear you down. However, they did not pay for my clinic visit. Remember, the post where I gave you all the requirements. You need to find it. That is what they require. It better to send it all in at once not relying of Dr R's letter. They deny ALL of those. I was approved the first time in five days. But I SENT EVERYTHING to them in separate cover. The key is to send it all at once and not let them have the chance to deny you over and over. With this company, it is NOT wise to wait until they contact you. You must be very proactive, otherwise they will weasel out of it. If you want the requirements again, you can call me I am here today until 10 am. I will return after 2pm. I am in Montgomery. I know where Andalusia is. I used to cover that area when I was selling pharmaceuticals. Call anytime. le

Anyone else have to have this pre authorization visit with Dr. R? >> Dinah, You have to get to Durham somehow. All of the Alabama people did. I did, did, Ivan did, Carolyn did. Clinic is required, so get it out of the way. drove there. With the cost of gas, it's probably comparable to flying. I flew the first time for $138, and the second time for $156 round trip. Hook or crook, you gotta get there. I knew the criteria, so I didn't wait for them to ask. They are way sneaky and they are getting tougher on new approvals, but if you have everything you need, they will pay. Georgia Brown knows what she is talking about. Do exactly what she says. le
