Guest guest
The diet is definitely a step in the right direction. Over time the bowels will become more regular. You can look at Elaine's protocol for constipation. It helps one to retrain the bowel by developing a regular bowel habit. Also, it could also be related to something as simple as needing more fluids. When my kids don't down enough water, I can guarantee you that they will not pass a bowel that day. You might also want to look into the need for magnesium or vitamin C. I think he actually likes that he is pooping every day now. " Also, it could also be related to something as simple as needing more fluids. He still doesn't drink that much but he now poops. So maybe it wasn't a dehydration issue after all. The thing is the constipation is one of the big reasons we went on the diet. If he starts to have constipation on this diet I think I would have to re-evaluate. The other thing I'm looking for is weight gain. If I could get him up to even the 10th percentile, I think we would doing good. Of course, I have no idea what he weighs right now! " You might also want to look into the need for magnesium or vitamin C. " We give a multi and vitamin C, but I've learned that it can be dangerous to rely on these two things to relieve chronic constipation. The bowel becomes sluggish with the overuse of magnesium. I know it's natural but.... I can't remember where I read that. You state that you have GI troubles. Does this mean that they are quite mild compared to others. I really need to hear from people who don't have debilitating problems because mine isn't. I wonder what symptoms mean what and what were your symptoms and how are they being relieved...like what does relief look like to you. thanks so much, gwen pollara luca-3 scd 3 weeks Jeni Lynn (gastrointestinal problems) SCD 1 month Re: Re: recommended tests >Date: Sun, 19 Mar 2006 19:08:26 -0800 (PST) > > > > " Jody G. Guest guest
No problem Gwen, Kim, and Kelli! Wow! It feels so good to be of help to some people here instead of always being the one in need of help. Gwen, to answer your question about supplements. I am very unqualified to answer that. We work with a nurtritionist, Payne. He and our DAN, Dr. Megson, look at all of the labs that we have run on our children to see what their deficiencies, metabolic disruptions, heavy metal toxicity levels are. At that point, they both put their heads together and design an individual supplement protocol for each child based on his/her need. My husband and I have not run these tests for ourselves because our finances do not permit it (shoot! .. . . our finances don't even permit what we are currently doing). So, we are on a good multi vitamin / mineral supplement and will attempt the yogurt / probiotic route as soon as our children can tolerate it. Someone else on the list may be of more help to you concerning your supplement questions. If not, I would be happy to give you Mike's phone number. He does phone consultations, and he takes SCD into account if you are trying to adhere to it. Jeni Lynn (gastrointestinal problems) SCD 1 month Re: what could the constipation Jeni Wow that was a big help. My gut issues aren't as severe as yours but also have similar moods, acne, used to have bloating before I stopped eating preserveratives and coke, hemorhoids, and general malaise. I felt so much better when I started eating whole foods and organic on top of that. I can't say I feel better eating SCD foods but I'm willing to give it a go. As for ds, I'm hoping that he will beef up a little on the diet. He is at the 3rd percentile now...well maybe not but he was. I think he may be heavier than I think he is. I understand that is considered quite normal for children to drop some percentage points especially when being breastfed. However, you're experience seems to negate that advice. Now I'm wondering about supplements. How do I know if we need supplements. I just started taking my prenatal again. It looks SCD legal but I'll have to double check. What I like is that it has some stuff to heal the gut in it. Though I'm sure the acidolphilus in it is dead by now. Thanks so much for your graffic descriptions. THat is what I really need to hear. Warmly, gwen luca-3 scd going on week 4 " Today a new sun rises for me; everything lives, everything is animated, everything seems to speak to me of my passion, everything invites me to cherish it.
