Guest guest
As one mom talking to another......Elaine claimed that many of us end up with serious B12 problems/deficiencies! I know I/we did! I insisted that the doctor checked us, after she claimed that nothing was going to come back wrong! Boy did my BLOOD and the blood of my kids SURPRISE HER! If was you I would insist that a B12 and B Vitamin profile was ran on your son. INSIST UPON IT....he may need B12 shots or B12 nasal spray like I do! Yet even blood work doesn't always show it, due to them not knowing what a " normal high " level is....look at you BTVC book, Elaine says that we have to have a " high normal " to have enough B12). I understand your frustration as a mother! These doctors just don't get it! My God I understand! After all KiKi's " delirium/seizure " at night where only " night terrors " and when she had a " drop seizures " during the day....it was because she " held her breath " (when she clearly DID NOT hold her darn breath!).....I don't know what to say....if this doesn't work.....ask your pediatrician if you could supplement with B12 making sure that all the B vits are covered....ask her how much is save to " experiment " with! Our Pediatrician claimed that we couldn't harm them with B12.....and the supplementation I think is helping TONS...especially in lifting my depression and chronic fatigue. I have faith that as we all heal all these things will disappear! KiKi has been seizure free for seven days! We are only on day 28 of the SCD diet! YEAH! Antoinette (entire family SCD day 28/Celiac DH, multiple sensitivities, ADD, ADHD, ASD and mental illness plus more) Toxic Levels of Amino Acids had some bloodwork done Feb 22nd for metabolic screening. While they found no " inborn errors of metabolism " the amino acid report came back with about half the amino acids really high, some 4-5 times the high end of the range. I can't find much on the Internet re toxic levels of amino acids, just deficiencies. I did find one item that said lack of B12 inhibits the metabolism of certain amino acids causing a buildup and blocks metabolism of protein, and am wondering, with 's malabsorption issues whether this is likely what is happening (or was since he is now gaining weight on the SC Diet). In any case, I am in " the little red hen " position with his doctors right now. Who will help me with my son said the mother? Not I, said the metabolic dr., it's not an in-born error ... Not I, said the neurologist, I do seizures and EEGs ... Not I, said the paediatrician, I am too busy. So, I turn to the experts - I cant imagine high levels of anything in the brain is a good thing. Guest guest
Sharon, Metanx is a prescription B-12 complex, it is very good for brain functioning. Pan American Laboratories; Toren's label is covering up the rest of the info. Any forward thinking MD should know about it, and be able to prescribe it for . Guest guest
Dear Sharon: If you go to www.autismanswer.com Dr. Yasko has a parent discussion forum. Go to the diet section and look up the glutamate content of foods section. Some children have high ammonia issues as well as a tendency towards glutamate/aspartate excitotoxicity (leading to neuronal damage.) Her book deals very well with the issue of excitotoxicity, and controlling the glutamate/GABA balance in children with autism is her first focus with respect to treatment protocol. The main webpage has a search function at the bottom. Enter " excitotoxins " and find her article on this issue. It is well worth the read. It will help you to understand what can be done if your child has amino acid accumulation. At the end of the article is a chart listing glutamate and aspartate contents of foods. For my kids, I find it is helpful to follow SCD but with low glutamate content foods. The major changes is more veggies, less almond and more hazelnut flours, fish (except salmon, cod or mackerel) better than other meats. Chicken and turkey white meats, and lamb in moderate quantities okay, I try to mix a lot of veggies in with the main meat part of any meal. Navy beans prep'd as per BTVC mixed in with recipes calling for nuts flour or eggs helps. Moderate amounts of eggs, peaches, apples and small amounts only of tomato, avocado. Hope this helps, with hope and love, SHARON CRUIKSHANK mag5jas2@...> wrote: had some bloodwork done Feb 22nd for metabolic screening.
