Hi all and thanks for your replies to my first post! Today I got to visit my

PCP to talk to her about recommending me for the MGB. My fingers are crossed.

She scares me!!!

There is a local Doctor here in Wilmington, NC that performs WLS and has

started doing it laproscopocly, but I really want to go to Durham (What a

track record!!!).

Has anyone been discouraged by their PCP? If so, how do I find another DR who

will agree to recommend and do follow ups? I don't want to have to go all

over town to find a DR! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Peg in Wilmington NC

I don't go anywhere without getting on the PHONE first. You get your little ol

phone book make a list and call em up. Get those answers before you step out

the door. Save time , save $, and save aggravation. Try not to be scared of

your

doctor. Remember, you are paying her, and her opinion is notcut into stone. Go

exactly how you feel. Write us anytime with any problem.

Peg,

You do what you have to do. I wish she would say " go with Dr. R

though " . I understand what your PCP is getting at though.

You know you are welcome here and I am sure everyone else will say the

same!

<< HI again! Home from my visit to pitch the MGB to my PCP. Guess what? She

was

FINE with it. Only one hitch. She thinks I should go with the surgeon that

does it here. Says that if I have any complications with the surgery in

Durham local Drs. wouldn't want to touch me. So I have an appointment in

Wilmington on July 19th to see the local surgeon. Do you all mind if I

remain

on the list even thought it may not be DR R?

Thanks and ill keep you all posted.

Hi Peg,

My PCP suggested someone in state, too, until I sent her all the info on Dr.

R and the differences between the MGB and the roux-en-y. She was convinced

when she called the " lap expert " in the area and found out he hasn't done a

fraction of the surgeries as Dr. R, the surgery was twice as long, and twice

as expensive. Just something to keep in mind and maybe check into for

yourself. If you do go that route, though, of course you can stay in the

group! The more the merrier!
