Hi all and thanks for your replies to my first post! Today I got to visit my

PCP to talk to her about recommending me for the MGB. My fingers are crossed.

She scares me!!!

There is a local Doctor here in Wilmington, NC that performs WLS and has

started doing it laproscopocly, but I really want to go to Durham (What a

track record!!!).

Has anyone been discouraged by their PCP? If so, how do I find another DR who

will agree to recommend and do follow ups? I don't want to have to go all

over town to find a DR! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Peg in Wilmington NC

HI again! Home from my visit to pitch the MGB to my PCP. Guess what? She was

FINE with it. Only one hitch. She thinks I should go with the surgeon that

does it here. Says that if I have any complications with the surgery in

Durham local Drs. wouldn't want to touch me. So I have an appointment in

Wilmington on July 19th to see the local surgeon. Do you all mind if I remain

on the list even thought it may not be DR R?

Thanks and ill keep you all posted.

Peg,

You must do what you think is best. However, Dr R isn't that far away. If

there are to be any complications they are usually within the first few days.

I know of the Dr who does it in Wilmington. He doesn't have near the number

of surgeries under his belt that Dr R does. He also doesn't use the same

technique Dr R does. Dr R has perfected his technique through the mass of

surgeries he has done.

Only you can determine what is best for you. If you consult with the Dr in

Wilmington I suggest you ask him what his complication rate is for the

various categories:

Clots in lungs

Clots in legs

esophagitis

ulcers

leaks

deaths

Also ask him how many surgeries he as done of the precise technique he is

going to be using on you.

Compare his downtime (time in hospital and recuperation time) to those of Dr

R.

Then make up your mind as to what YOU want to do.

Good luck and God Bless

JC

Peg,

Talk to a, I think she has a PCP list that she can check for your

area. At least that is what I think (that's my story and I'm sticking to

it). LOL

in SC

Wanting to start a new life

with the help of MGBsurgery by Dr. R

If you see someone without a smile,

Give them one of yours.

If you and I should meet and

you forget me, you have lost nothing.

If you meet JESUS and you forget him,

you will have lost everything.

Peg,

For heavens sake do you really have to ask? Stay what ever your decision but

make sure whatever you do is your decision. It is difficult when you are getting

pressure from your PCP to see another doctor. I was advised to go to University

of Md or Johs Hopkins but they did not have what I wanted. Good Luck and make

up

your own mind what is best for you. You are the one that will be living with

the

decision that you make.
