Have you made goat yogurt before? - it is thinner than cow yogurt.

Could the milk have gone bad?

Are you sure that the milk was cooled to 100°F or below. If higher

it may have killed some of the bacteria.

Was the starter new?

Yes I have made it before. The batch in my 1 qt maker was about

normal but the batch in the 5/1 1/2 cup maker was really runny. I

heated, cooled and mixed it all together and then poured it into the

containers.

My starter is about 2 wks old and I keep it in fridge.

It sounds as if the 1 qt batch is fine. And since you used the same

starter for both batches it isn't the starter.

That leaves the yogurt maker for the " 5/1 1/2 cup maker " . Was that

the first time you used that yogurt maker. I have a 5 cup maker that

I don't use too often. Occasionally it overheats and messes up a

batch. It could also ruin a batch if the temperature didn't go high

enough. I wouldn't use the runny batch - especially if it isn't as

tart as the 1 qt. batch.

Thanks Sheila,

The one that didn't turn out is one that was loned to me. She said

that she never had any problem with it but I guess I will not use it

again. This is to much of a hassle to have it not turn out because

of the maker. Guess I am back to doing one quart at a time.

Can you pour the yogart into a glass jar after it is done but before

it is cooled?

Just trying to figure out how to get more made up quicker.

Be blessed

Hi Sandy,

> Can you pour the yogart into a glass jar after it is done but before

You can do that but it will affect the texture of the yogurt - it will

probably be runnier. But it will not affect the viability of the good

bacteria. :)

What some people do is to purchase a second liner for their 1 qt

makers. Then you can make a second batch as soon as the first is done.
