Reason for JuicePlus being illegal?

Just wondering what it is that makes JuicePlus illegal. My friend has

been really happy with it for her kids and I couldn't remember what

makes it illegal. I realize the gummy bears and chewables would have

stuff that is illegal but what about the straight powder? Just curious

so I know why.

It took me a while to dig up the ingredients. The Juice+ website did

not have them readily available.

Here they are:

Concentrates of apples, oranges, pineapples, cranberries, peaches,

dates, pruned, papaya, cherries, carrots, (gluten free) barley and

oats, parsley, beets, kale, broccoli, cabbage, spinach, tomatoes: and

plant enzymes, (bromelain, papain, lipase, amylase, protease,

cellulase) fibers (glucomannan, pectins, cellulose) acidophilus and

allicin a from garlic.

So, barley and oats are ingredients. That would make the product illegal.

Our nutritionist from the Thoughtful House

(http://www.thoughtfulhouse.org) actually called Juice Plus and looked

into their ingredients and found:

" With the Juice Plus the company has 3rd party documented testing

completed on a regular basis to confirm that it is gluten free. It is

accepted and used by celiacs in the US. The company also has a

position statement on safety of use on the SCD which they can forward

to you if you like. I am comfortable with its use for your child on

the SCD. "

I think it is best to contact the company directly to confirm this

position.

This may be true for the TH nutritionist, but Elaine had a resounding

NO for this product. She was adament that it is not SCD legal. She

spoke with the company at the DAN! DC conference almost 2 years ago.

She was not persuaded to change her mind.

Anyone is free to use any product that they choose to use, but this

product is NOT SCD legal. It would go contrary to Elaine's official

position on it to say that it is allowed. I'm sorry.

There are many ways to disguise fruits and veggies. Whole foods are

more readily absorbed than supplements anyway. I am sure that people

would be willing to share their ideas on how they've gotten more

veggies into their kids.

Since it contains barley, oats and pectin this product is SCD

illegal. These three ingredients will feed the harmful microbes

that you are trying to starve by doing SCD.

I am sorry that you have been mislead by this company.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that this has happened.
