Guest guest
With a port you can as it is all under the skin.A Picc line is part under the skin and part outside for IV hookups so I don't think you can go swimming with it accessed.BeckyB. Guest guest
Hello. My daughter, , has had several picc lines and has a mickey button. She swims with both. We wrap the picc line entrance site with saran wrap, then tape it. Once we wrapped it with saran wrap, ace bandage, and taped it completely. The site did not get wet. We usually put a cotton patch or bandaid over the site, too. She plays all sports with both and does all " normal " activities. They also have a " sock " they gave us when they put the picc line in for her to wear to help hold it when she is pitching softball. Hope this helps. Sue Pettit mom to (15 wocf), (12 wocf), and (10 wcf) diagnosed at 8 days of age at LeBonheur Childrens Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee

Guest guest
That is one of the reasons we love the port. When they want to swim, and are on iv therapy, we deaccess the port so they can swim and reaccess when it is time for the next dose. Some docs feel ok with swimming with a picc if you cover the entire thing with tegaderm. this still makes me nervous. Also, we have had docs tell us if the port is completely (tubing and all) covered with tegaderm that they can swim with their ports accessed, but we feel that the ports are too important to risk their being infected and lose the port....so we don't do it. The kids don't mind being deaccessed and reaccessed for getting to swim so we go that route. Yet another reason for the parents to learn how to do the accesses. (the biggest reason, in my opinion, is that we have much more vested interest in being sterile and doing it right than any nurse does...) take care Jen Mommy of 7, 3 with CF, 2 with ports > My little boy loves to swim. Can he still do so with a port or pi

Guest guest
You can do anything with a medport IF it isn't accessed for meds. Then that is 2 weeks or more out of the water.
