Jzin,

Read the Maker's Diet, By Jordan Rubin.

It help's you appreciate SCD, and gives info on the Raw Veggies Diet.

I think you have to be a year without symptoms to eat foods off the diet.

SCD allows raw veggies in later stages.

Hi dear pecanbread friends,

I have 2 autistic boys ages 5 and 2.5

we have been doing SCD since Dec 2003 for older son

and since June 05 for little son

I highly suspect my sons have some form of IBD

and plan to get them scoped with Dr.Krigsman, thanks to

advice from many helpful people on the board

my 2 boys behaviors improved a lot on SCD

(calmer, happier, teachable, great sleep, etc)

but they are still not recovered yet

older son lacks understanding

younger son easily sensory overload/shuts off

I read Nison's book from the local

Mother's health food store:

Healing Inflammatory Bowel Disease: The Cause and Cure of Crohn's

Disease and Ulcerative Colitis

is a man with Ulcerative Colitis who recovered

himself with diets

he is making a lecturing tour in USA

and coming to my town (Costa Mesa, CA) for a free lecture

at the Health Food Store, Mothers

I am inspired by the idea of healing

with diets not drugs(or are inflammatory drugs inevitable/expediate

recovery?)

here's his website:

I am inclined to tell all my local Autism support group pals

about his coming talk

what do you think of raw foods diet for colitis/UC/Crohns/IBD?

do my kiddies have to be on SCD very long before they

can tolerate raw, living foods?

we are slowly transitioning by juicing fibrous green leafy veggies

so they are raw but not hard on the tummy

and giving tiny amounts of raw veggies with cooked foods

thanks for your input

We do not support The Maker's Diet. Elaine was emphatic about this.

I didn' t say Jzin should use the Maker's diet... I said she should read the

Maker's Diet book...it's a good source of information about many diets and

general health.

It helped me appriciate SCD.

I belive you must be a year without symptoms to try food off SCD... and SCD

allows raw veggies later in the diet.

Elaine was adamently against it for GI problems because it allows

foods that are not allowed on SCD.

Perhaps the Maker's Diet is appropriate for the general population. I

don't know.

But Elaine was adament that it is not appropriate for people with GI

issues, like celiac disease, Crohn's, Ulcerative Colitis, the GI

issues that ASD kids have, etc.

By all means, do SCD!!!!

Maker's Diet (MD) would be for later on, after no symptoms.

The Maker's diet is a very healthy way to eat and is a great reference, but

allows grains, which aren't for those with digestive problems.

But I do take MD into consideration when we eat.

These two diets are not incompatible, they fit together nicely, for example-

my son does SCD, but I choose not to give him shellfish or catfish or pork,

which are allowed on SCD but not on MD.

So, bottom line = do SCD, and make MD avoidance modifications.
