Guest guest
This usually means I.V.s, often with children, in hospital. The need for this is determined by increase in cough, increase in quantity of sputum, fevor and or weight loss--in most cases. The cf physician usuall has a sputum culture done, but if the child has been running a fever which is slowly rising over several days, they usually go by the initial gram culture of the sputum and start the IVs on that basis; there may be a change later as the cultures grow out. " Positive " simply means that a bacterium is there in a measurable amount: +1, +2, +3, +4, the higher neumber signifying the greater number of bacteria. Many are tested for: psudo monus auroginosa, sphaphylococcus aureus, H. Influenzae (not " the flu, but a bacterium), S. Maltiphilia, and many others. Usually agressive treatment brings good results in two weeks or so. Teen-agers and youth and even older persons with cf often refer to the " tune-u[ " as a " grease job, " " oil change, " or " valve job. " Good luck with all this stuff, n Rojas, wcf, mom of 3 older adults, the youngest wcf as well
Guest guest
Thanks n, good answer! I guess I could add that now many do their tuneups at home with home IV's and extra nebs and CPT which is ok if you have the Vest but hard on parents if they need cpt 4 times a day or more. I've also heard it called a cleanout or " visiting club med " . love, " tune-up " - for Suni - This usually means I.V.s, often with children, in hospital.
